Hi all

My interview is this Tues the 10th June. Can anyone tell me if this is paid at the interview or can I pay afterwards? If anyone has specific experience with the DUBLIN embassy that would be great. Also just wondering if they take credit card there?

Thanks everyone

Hey Palomino - we are also going through Dublin embassy interview, but not until July 8th. Be sure to let us know how everything goes. The fee just needs to be paid online before departing for the US. Read the POE section from the below link. They have a link there too to a copy of the letter explaining the process there.

Since this fee is for the green card production and you must pay it on the ELIS website. You only may pay it after you receive your visa up to 1 year after arrival in the USA. You do not have to pay it before you leave, but most choose to.

It's impossible to pay this fee either at the embassy or before your interview. ;)

Thanks NLR! Here's another quick question , I was just reading about other peoples interviews and a few times it has come up about bringing a stamped addressed envelope to the interview and putting 12.50 euros worth of stamps on it. Has anyone else seen this?? It's not mentioned anywhere on my instructions that I received

Directly from the ELIS site

"You must pay the $165 fee online using USCIS ELIS after you receive your immigrant visa package from a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad (including Canada and Mexico) and before you depart for the United States."

How old are those reviews? You will need to check to see how the embassy will be returning your documents. Penguin may be the best source for that as she also went through dublin and is a mod here.

Thanks NLR I think they may refer to the K1 visas. My visa will be sent by courier so not sure how it would apply in my case.

Hi,

I had my interview in the middle of May. You don't need to bring an envelope with you. However, on the day they'll give you a reference number and a website link. There, you can register to have your visa and passport delivered to the DPD Courier depot. You can also have it delivered to your home address. This is an additional $45.

I didn't have the most positive experience at the US Embassy, I found them incredibly rude, ignorant and generally unhelpful. I felt like everyone there has a chip on their shoulder. In the end, I got my visa and entered the US with no problem. At my point of entry the secondary inspection officer had the same manner of everyone I encountered during the process. The only helpful person in the process was the security guard at the front gate of the embassy in Dublin.

Needless to say, my husband is embarrassed by the service that USCIS provides.

If you've got any further questions, please feel free to ask!

USCIS doesn't have anything to do with either your POE or your experience with the embassy. The Department of State runs the NVC and the embassies and consulates around the world. The Department of homeland security is who is in charge ultimately of the USCIS (who are self funded) and the CBP. Most people find the CBP to be annoying to deal with.

Ok, I don't know who has jurisdiction for what; Deparment of State, USCIS, CBP, Dept. of Homeland Security, all have a sense of superiority and unnecessary authority. These departments need to be more respectful to the people who enter the United States the legitimate way.

Welcome to the USA. :)

Trust me, I get it. I'm the immigrant! ;)
