Travel to Russia: Green Card, Russian passport or some combination

My wife is now living in the US with her Green Card (LPR) under her married name. Her Russian passport is under her maiden name. She wanted to legally change that in Russia but apparently the paperwork and effort required to do so is mind boggling.

Given that TSA in the US wants her plane ticket under her married name and Aeroflot wants her ticket to match her Russian passport,

What is the easiest or most hassle free way for her to travel to and from Russian until she can change her Russian passport?

I'm sure this has been covered before so I apologize for a duplicate post, but I was unable to find the right combination of magic words to get a good answer.

Thanks everyone.

Ticket in passport name. Enter Russia on Russian passport.

Enter US on Greencard. They will understand about the name change.

1. Get her Russian passport stamped by a consulate/embassy: "the bearer of this passport also known as [her married last name]".

2. Always travel to Russia with your American marriage certificate.

A very small percentage of the Russian spouses bothers to charge their last names in their internal passports. The rest travels with 2 passports (or passport + GC) with different last names without any troubles.

We had this several years ago but it is my understanding the Russian embassy in DC is no longer doing it. Some of the consulates my still do it. Just depends where you live.

Yes, always travel with your marriage certificate just to be sure.

True.

Mine got stamped last November....actually, re-stamped: the original stamp was issued 16 years ago. Since then every new passport gets one again, without even asking. So I am assuming the San Fran consulate still issues those stamps.

I would disagree with your statement that the TSA wants the ticket in the same name as the green card. They don't. If she has her ticket in her maiden name and shows her ticket and passport she won't have a bit of problem. She will use her green card when she reenters the USA.

We have been married for 6 1/2 years. My wife is in Russia right now visiting her family. This is her third trip back. The only time we have had a problem with airlines was the one time we booked the ticket in her married name. They would not let her board but did change the name of the ticket to her maiden name so we could make the trip. That one was to Aruba.

Book the ticket in the name that matches the passport. Take a copy of the marriage license just to be safe. We have always taken it but never needed it. The only place she will use her married name is coming through customs on the way back with the green card. The will understand and see this all the time. Don't worry about this problem. It won't be a problem.

My wife has her application in for citizenship so traveling should be easier soon.
