My rant

So, we get home last night after some shopping. I have a picture of a Canadian flag printed off and attached to my front door of my apartment. When I looked at it last night, the word "Pedifile" was scribbled on it. My wife is considerably younger than me, but we have been VERY happy since she's arrived and I know I made the right decision on getting her over here. She is the ONE for me!!

I've contacted the property manager and the police to file a report on this vandalism.

Has anyone else experienced this intolerance since bringing their Asawa to the US?

Not me in particular, but I am reasonably certain you and your wife are not the only victim of this hate crime. And that is exactly what it is: A hate crime. You made the right decision reporting the crime to the police, and i hope they catch the criminal quickly.

P.S. You are in good company, as many member of interracial and same sex marriages are victims of this type of crime. Don't let a small minded criminal spoil your marriage.

P.P.S. I can see the criminal is a spelling bee champion. Goes to show you the intelligence level of this type of criminal.

We did have one landlord saying stuff about not wanting foreigners babies and saying that I will burn her house down using the stove. We are having court case now.

That is totally unacceptable and you did right in calling the police.

We get our share of looks when out and about but nary a peep out of anyone.

You may do well to invest in a small peep hole camera..

That would for sure ruin "that person's" day if the police had video of them doing that.

Thanks Hank et al!! I'm considering the camera already. It is totally unacceptable behaviour of so called 'adults'.

We get some stares too, and I've accepted them. My 10 year old daughter accompanied us on a shopping/site seeing tour of Amish country last Saturday. I'm sure alot of folks were wondering why my 2 daughters didn't look alike!!

LOL

It does not matter what the age difference is. You could be 80 and your wife could be 18. You are breaking no laws, you are both happy, and that is the end of it and nobody else's business.

Candy and I are 16 years apart, and she speaks with a thick Filipino accent. And she is smart and hard working and very good at handling people (especially me). Whoever does not like it, too bad for them.

Heck my wife and I have a 28 year age gap. When we catch people staring or "chicken clucking" I will say something like "won't it be nice when you finally turn 18..." that is always good for a laugh.

Tons of camera options out there, in this case it would be good to have your front door "watched" ... see who's the spelling bee loser.

My husband and I only have an age gap of 6 years, and his parents thought I was only 19 when he showed my picture to them after his first visit to Philippines. And they asked him if it's even legal in Philippines that a girl gets married if below 20 years old. :D That was 4 years ago. Now, they think I have grown fast and more mature-looking too.

Ronn, people might be thinking your wife is way younger than her age, which is quite common for Asian women especially for those with a small physique, and just gotta brag here, Filipinas do have that advantage (a disadvantage to others who want to appear assertive maybe). Are you new in that neighborhood? Maybe those were just kids. In any case, a police report is a good move nonetheless, and the camera idea too. Hope it doesn't get more serious than that.

First off let me say that behavior is harassment and shouldn't happen. Just wanted to get that out of the way. People are free to think whatever they want but this never justifies a malicious (and poorly spelled) act.

I have no doubt that couples well outside of a standard age range (say Age / 2 + 7) regularly find meaningful and loving relationships. I have no idea why it gets completely tossed out the window when this shifts to a discussion of a spouse from another country. The embassy does pay some attention to large age differences as there's likely to be less in common and more chance of a marriage of convience.

I find no shame in stating that a 50+ year old guy who specifically targets and tries to date under 21 year old women creeps me out. Ask your nearest mid-20's American woman and I'd imagine they'd have a similar reaction. That includes someone who looks for an exceptionally young partner on a dating site. Can my 92 year old grandpa take your daughter to prom? He's still pretty active and enjoys long walks to the mailbox and yelling at CNN. He's an amazing person and has a great life but he's clearly at a different point in that life than someone just out of HS trying to figure out where to go next and how to build those next steps. Insert whatever less extreme example you'd like and some portion of that will still apply and make many aspects of that relationship much more difficult now or in the future.

I do have a prejudice based on my observations of couples with large age differences in the Philippines, the US and other countries. Ronn63, I'm glad you and your wife don't fit that pattern and happy you've found each other and a meaningful relationship.

Thumbing my nose at anyone who makes a stink about age differences. Who gives a rip about what other insignificant people think?

I never noticed any problem from others, only envious looks from other guys. But I could care less what anyone else thinks about anything that is purely a matter in my own life.

Now...noisy, obnoxious neighbors who infringe on my peace and quiet in my personal sanctuary, now that is a huge problem to me.

Oh, and by the way, it sure would be nice to have a switch to flip to electrify a door, wouldn't it? But then the innocent would suffer too I guess. I guess you just have to figure that it is all about jealousy, whether from a man or a woman. Cant figure out what else it could be. So just look at it as that they are screaming out that their own life is going down the tubes.
