I do have the highest respect for you, Hank in keeping your website updated. It's not easy, considering how many changes it had been since you guys went through it. Most blogs that were in hiatus just left the old info there hanging...

I don't think I've seen that.. I'll check that out.

Edit: Saw some images on the website. My collection is not that messy ... yet! :innocent:

I have never seen the show Hoarders, just read something about it. I do like American Pickers, some of the home they go to for sure could be classified as hoarders.

Geez ... You guys are hurting my ego! I am also keeping those plastic and boxes you know! Well, I do re-use and recycle.

The way Prism handled it before must be a world of difference. Knowing it was handled by nuns, so I'm sure their objective then was to question why a girl is leaving her roots for a man? I'm sure, the Filipino men wouldn't have the same issues then.

When she had no room in the shoe closet, formerly the linen closet, she realized she couldn't keep all the boxes. When there was no more room under the kitchen sink, she realized we had a few too many plastics saved

Ooohhh.. I'm organized (in my standards, of course :D ) and just collect re-usable stuff. If it can't be be used in the near future like within 1 year, I won't keep it for sure.

The kitchen sink is where I place the plastic bags too! That's why the husband says it's a safety hazard if it's close to the other cleaning stuff or the plumbing pipes.

She keeps them well organized under there. I did mention something once, and she kept collecting them. It was on her own that she realized she was saving more than we can possibly use in a reasonable period of time. Which was when she couldn't find anything else under there. Now she keeps a reasonable level. The shoe box purge was totally on her own. I don't go into the linen closet since its turned into the shoe closet.

I'm with you on this topic. My wife saw me on our first shopping trip throwing out the plastic bags and said we should keep them "as you never know". Of course me, I don't reuse those bags because they seem to split or tear, always at the wrong time. So, she has saved and now we have "tons" of plastic bags.

You know, I thought about why she keeps these things and it goes back to her upbringing. When you have very little you find ways to reuse what you have in new ways. Us Kanos don't think that way because we often times have too much.

Along the same lines of this discussion she said you Americans have a gadget for everything and I replied, yes we do because we are lazy and invent things to make our lives easier. She laughed and so did I.

I just wish the speakers know what they are talking about more.. Most of them have never even set foot in the US (at least when I did it) and I had been there a couple of times. They were saying the weirdest things. Also, he was so condescending and told us that even though we had our visas, they always had the last say. Which was true, but no need to act like Gods. Plus they kept insisting people open bank accounts with BDO because you cant open a US account without it. It was so wrong.. Hope things have changed now

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

On a side note, I love zombie threads because you get to read stuff from people that we haven't heard from in a while.  Caryh and Messybrownhair; I hope they're doing well.

And it is great to see people being successful on the boards.   But then it is depressing to see how USCIS has failed.

But back to the topic.  My asawa had to make 4 trips to CFO in 2018.  I don't remember the order but she did register correctly and told the counselor the correct info.  Visa from Mexico and married to a kano. Told the first day the had to change classes.  She had to go to a session for Central America / South America and then was told to do one for the US or the other way around.  When I met her back in Manila she had a backpack full of pamphlets.
