@Lovemytico did they make your husband get the chicken pox vaccine? The doctor made my husband get one! My husband told the doctor he had chicken pox already and therefore didn't need one but the doctor insisted. I think he just wanted to make more money. The whole visit cost $150!!

My esposo and I just went through the long list of interview questions, I think we'll do great!

One question I do have is what's a good answer to "why do you want to move to the USA?" Obviously it can't be because he wants to be with me since I'm living in CR with him right now. The *real* reason is because Costa Rica is really expensive and you get paid very little, in the USA cost of living is lower and you get paid more. Also my esposo kind of hates CR right now (I'm sure he'll miss it when we leave, absence makes the heart grow fonder and what not). But would that be an acceptable answer? To say the USA is cheaper and the jobs are better?

OK - so some of the L-Girls have changed to "Ready" - that's great! I think Sydney has our file (not sure, though), and I'm checking every hour or so to see if the status has changed. I wonder if the consulates actually send an email saying "Ok - we have received this file", or whether some person at NVC checks the DHL status and clicks a button on the NVC system to indicate "Ready".

Oh - and this "new" status screen thingie....if I go to ceac.state.gov/ceac it comes up with the two-field entry. If I go away for a couple of hours and come back, (leaving the screen open on my computer), it has changed to the three-field entry screen.

I want a "READY"!!!!! We wrote the Sydney Consulate asking formal permission for me to attend the interview with Julie. We have not had a reply yet, but people have reported that it takes 3-5 working days for them to reply to an email.

My husband putted wrong information in the file. He putted the city where we get our marriage license instead of the actual city where we get merried. He got confused. Is it a good idea if we change it and send again? were afraid that embassy will deny our case because of minimal wrong information. Are they really that strict? salamat

Sorry to be away from the forums for such a long time, I just wanted to let everyone know my husband was approved on the 10th for his CR1. His interview was on the 10th, and on the 12th he had his visa in hand and he crossed the border with me. I am beyond excited! It was all worth it!

Finally skyped with my husband today and he said his interview went smoothly. He was there 3 hours total, and said everyone he talked to was super nice and friendly. He said he was asked for a LOT of the papers I sent him with, like a copy of my BC and the baby's BC copy. So it's good I sent him so prepared.

His visa is supposed to arrive within 3 days. Does the sealed package come with the courier? Sorry if that's a dumb question but I am not sure.

Congrats! Sealed packet will come with the IV-stamped passport, pickup or courier as per the instructions your hubby got. The whole thing would be a sealed paper packet and the passport, both in a sealed plastic wrap, which he could cut (the plastic wrap) to get the passport out.

Maybe this thread should have links to actual samples of IV, visa packet, POE stamp... etc.

He should've gotten all originals minus the PCC already before he left the Consulate.

If what he put matches the city name stated on the marriage certificate, then all should be well. Besides, such honest mistakes and other updates could be volunteered at the beginning of the interview. This is assuming you're done with NVC.

I called NVC tonight and was told that they are done scheduling interviews for July for this month. Not sure if he meant just Vietnam or in general, but he mentioned that they usually schedule interviews at the beginning of the month. I don't believe him because the spreadsheet suggests the opposite. So until June 30th hits, there's still hope for a July interview!

- Original and photocopy of your previous spouse death certificate,'his name here'

The certificate has to be issued by the Canadian government registrar office www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca

After reviewing their website, it appears getting this document might take longer to get than I have time for, considering my interview is only 13 business days away.

I only have the Funeral Director's Statement of Death/ Certificate, and it's done just fine for everything else over these years since he passed away! Besides, he was a common law spouse and when I filed the I-130, I included him and stated it was common-law in the date of marriage slot. (and included a copy of the existing death certificate). Before filing the I-129F I called USCIS to ask whether a common-law counted as a spouse for the purposes of US immigration since the form asked for the date of marriage, and they said no, so I included a letter of explanation indicating that I would no longer refer to him as a spouse due to the conversation I had with a USCIS representative.

Ugh, I should have just left him off the original I-130 if I'd been thinking clearly at the time... but in Canada, common-law counts as a spouse.

If I don't have the certificate at the interview, will this be an instance where I don't get the approval or my visa until I send it in and they 'review it'?

A little more notice would sure have been nice !

Sorry to hear that Lakehouse. Since it's the Consulate that is requesting this document, not NVC, then it seems they really mean it. If it were me and I'm sure I couldn't have it by interview date, then I would rather ask for an interview postponement than risk a pending AP that I would have no control on or even ability to status-check. Being put on a back burner is not a nice feeling as we all very well know.

Take a deep breath and weigh your risks and tolerances before deciding.

this is why calling everyday helps.... I got my CC on June 2nd... I called on the 3rd to check ... still CC. I called on the 4th in the morning.. they told me I did NOT have a CC... I immediately asked for a supervisor, she told me that she would look into this and get back to me... She did call me back 2 hours later and told me they promised to have this taken care of that evening.. and so I called later that night around 10pm and I had my CC baack !!! Then the supervisor called me the next day to confirm my CC. She was really helpful. If you would have called sooner you could have gotten a supervisor to check into it !!

You should expect a CC email tomorrow in the early morning EST
