We received the interview email the day the assigned the interview date, exactly one week after our Case was completed. I'm not sure how representative that is of other cases, but it's definitely nice not to have to call them!!! And we were only calling once a week (our approach was to call at key times)

(By the way, loved your stats-based predictions. I really like this kind of stuff and hope I can work again with numbers/stats - my immigration ordeal has put me out of my field for the past 3 years, so I don't know if I'll be able to catch up.)

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my fingers crossed for thaf interview letter.

by the way,

Math is timeless and international really. I think you'll be fine as long as you believe in yourself! and yeah I also called at key times but still could never get out of being on hold for a while :P

Good luck for interview!

Always double check your documents and forms. Not only do you get delayed by RFEs and Checklists, but the time it takes for them to review the new items you send could be used to approve more applications. Save yourself and others valuable time!

Current Status: NVC:
-Assigned and Received NVC Case Number, IIN, and BIN April 18, 2014. (100% sure case # was assigned today because I called twice and it wasn't assigned in the morning when they opened but in the afternoon it was)
*Could not provide email then as case was still being updated in their system
-On April 21, 2014 I was able to provide my email and beneficiary's.
-On April 28 I was able to fill out DS-261
-On April 29 I received and paid AOS Fee (at 1pm)
-On May 1 I received and paid IV Fee (at 1pm [became available]), also AOS Fee shows as PAID
-On May 5 IV Fee shows as PAID and DS-260 became available and was completed. Also, AOS Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 7 IV Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 28 AOS Accepted

-On June 2 IV Accepted/Case Complete

-On June 11 Interview Email Received

-On July 3 Interview at Moscow

Note: Medical Exam scheduled after interview letter received by calling the specific clinic, earliest appointment was 2 weeks ahead)

-Visa approved, came to us, got greencard, sadly things didnt go well and divorced. Last I hears she was still in the US and got a full greencard (I notified USCIS of divorce though)

OK, folks. It's official!!!

CASE COMPLETE AS OF JUNE 4!!!

:dancing: :joy: :dancing:

AND, I must have good luck - I never had to speak to either Joy or AH-thur!!!!

Jim was the bearer of good news. He didn't even ask me "What can I help you with this evening?". He cut right to the chase and told me the case was complete!

Then, when I gently pushed, he read me the standard line about interview scheduling and it depended on how busy the consulate was, blah, blah, blah. But he told me he loved being able to tell people good news!!!!

Now....waiting on interview scheduling....

For those of you waiting - it does appear that an "N/A" under "Affidavit of Support Fees" is a positive indicator of case complete. My package explaining that the checklist item they wanted was 1) not required and 2) not available was scanned in on May 9th.

Sukie

Congratulations!!! :dancing::dancing::dancing::dance::dance::dance:

Hi Saylin or who may be able to help me.

Do you know why my signature is showing like this now instead of line by line. I don't like it like this and want it back the other way.

I think you edited your signature using Safari. It happened to me before.

Try fixing it using IE and then if you need to edit, only use IE.

11/17/2016: Got engaged

Not positive on this answer, but if there are any changes before the interview, I think you take the updated forms to the interview to give to the CO. Just like how a few people around here found a new job, etc before the interviews, they took an updated form to the interview with them. I don't see why it would cause any issues.

But don't take my word for it until someone else can confirm!

To qualify as head of household you have to meet four conditions (all of them). The most important things are that you are unmarried or considered as unmarried and you have a 'qualifying' child living with you.

So I am not sure if the OP qualifies as HOH without knowing his/her situation. But Married Filing Seperate will work until the 'foreign' spouse is here and has a SS #. Then the tax return can be amended to Married Filing Joint (for a bigger refund, hopefully).

Totally agree with you; that it is possible to file HOH even if married (under specific conditions), and that the OP should consult a proper authority before acting blindly. When it comes to the IRS, every action or inaction can bring its own unpredicted consequences.

The tax person put me as head of household. Is that ok? If not, what steps do I need to take to file an ammendment? Do I go to my tax preparer and have them fix the error? (Although i will pay extra close attention before signing anything) and approx how long does the ammendment take to process or get completed?

I believe its ok, I recently took a tax class and I learned that married person can file head of household if he/she meets the criteria such as leaving separate residence from spouse, qualifying child and support test. As always please read more on the IRS website.

Also if ever you decide to file an amendment to change to Married Filing Separate status, I would recommend using the assistance of tax professionals. There are tax credits/ deductions that you cannot take if filing MFS and if you filed Head of Household, most likely you took those tax credits/deductions on your 1040 so you will have to change that as well. This is why most tax people will advise you not to file MFS because it gives most people the least advantage/benefit.The amendment process usually takes about 8 to 10 weeks.

I called to check on my AOS documents to see if they have been approved or if I have a checklist. I was told that the operator couldn't look on the system as someone was in my file. She agreed it was probably a good sign it was being reviewed as we speak. Looks like I will be calling again tomorrow! Call went through first dial, 40 minutes on hold, spoke to Jean?, she was lovely just wish she could've told me more!

As long as you qualify for HOH, then that's fine for this process. That and filing MFS and MFJ are acceptable tax filing statuses. The only one you can't do (or shouldn't do) is filing as single when you're married.

Hi Saylin or who may be able to help me.

Do you know why my signature is showing like this now instead of line by line. I don't like it like this and want it back the other way.

Just go back into it and hit 'enter' at the end of each line. It should then move the stuff to the right of the cursor to a new line. Then just go down doing the same thing for each line you want.

Are the folks in the invoicing and DS-261 sections at the NVC asleep now? I submitted my DS-261 over two weeks ago and still no IV invoice.

Anyone know if the problem is that I chose no agent and want them to invoice me? Or are they just taking a really long time these days. I'm thinking at this point I'm unlikely to get an interview until August, or even September if they keep dragging their feet like this.

I just finished the call to NVC, asked them about my IV Invoice. The old man very nice to explain to me something( I said "old man" because I guess on his voice :) ). At first, my IV Invoice will be available no later than this week as he can write a note or do something in my casefile. He said IV Invoicing now takes longer than normal due to backlog. For those who submitted DS-261 twice or more and nothing changes on the form. He said that is website error and NVC knows that. They process on the first submit if the form is the same. He answer that when I ask which date I counting to 30 days......So, in my case, I counting from May 8( first submit) but he assured as I wrote above, maybe he is a supervisor :). And the second, AOS and IV. He said today NVC reviewing the package that has been scanned into the system on May 9 and a bit 12. My AOS package scanned on May 20, he also said I may have update on AOS Package in the end of next week.

FYI : I dialed 38 times and on hold for 72 mins :)

I bet you were talking to Gus! That's great you were able to find out what day they were working on last night! So May 12th peeps, start dialing!!!! Thanks for all the info, too! :-)

apparently a supervisor has my file ready to review... hoping for a case complete soon

You're another one that's overdue for a CC! I'm ready to congratulate you!! :-)
