I actually just got out of a boring meeting... but of course I had VJ open on my other screen. ha ha

I just want to comment on how much I think it sucks that people have to wait a month before even getting a case number. It makes my stomach flip flop. They seriously need to overhaul this whole system. Would it kill them to assign a case number when it gets approved at the USCIS so when it arrives at the NVC things would go much smoother??? I understand not giving the case number to the applicants before it gets to the NVC but really? Their systems should be the same... Arrive at the NVC and the case number is already established and info is in the system. I guess that would eliminate jobs and we wouldn't want that.... GOODNESS... It just kills me to see everyone wait. I personally think the NVC is a wasted middleman step that is useless.

It really is absurd. There should be one centralized computer system and one ID for every case for the whole process, start to finish. I waited about 6 weeks between receiving NOA2 and being able to take any next steps. It's a ridiculous inefficiency.

From what I've gathered from the government's IT dashboard, the so-called improvement/modernization is slated to take through 2017. Maybe at the end of it they'll have a system that makes sense

Here is something that I will never understand. USCIS is under the Department of Homeland Security. The National Visa Center is under the Department of State. Shouldn't they both be under the same department? I fail to understand why both agencies need to be involved when it would make much more sense and streamline the process much easier if everything was done at the same place.

LOL! I told my husband the same thing last night! Now we have no idea what day they're working on now :-(

It also doesn't help that there's a rogue thread, which creates a gap in people's time of reference. Oh well.

I'm calling back on Friday to see if they've made it to the 16th yet - I'm hoping the Agent will let me know what day they're on!!

Agreed. The inefficiencies involved in shuffling our paperwork around cost both time and money for everyone involved. I fully understand the need to complete processing at the embassy/consulate, but there's so much duplication of effort between USCIS and NVC. Sending a photocopy of the marriage cert for the I-130 and then the certified copy for the IV packet, for instance. The biographic information questions (e.g., name, DOB, address) are repeated across just about every form. It's just silliness. There's got to be some way to simplify the process that would work within the government's whacked-out structure. Kind of makes me want to write a proposal

If you get into the queue before 12 will someone still answer you if you have not gotten an answer by then?

The night I got my Case Complete, I got onto the queue at 1140 and they answered my call at 1208 :D

On the I-864 and I-864A, my co-sponsor and his household member own real-estate assets, but they don’t want to bother with getting them appraised and they also have enough in liquid assets so they will not report them on the forms. Since they actually own these assets but will not use them on the forms, is it better to write “$0” or “N/A” in the blank space for real-estate assets on the forms?

We left the entire assets section alone without filling anything in, not even an N/A.

[...]

Also, I have no experience with the EZ, but I have heard that the value is not line 22, but actually line 37. I will wait for someone to confirm or deny this though. Did you file in 2011 even though you didn’t work? I think in your case, only submitting the 2013 transcript return is best if you did not file in 2011 since then you will have to write a letter telling them why you didn’t file in 2011. If you didn’t file and just write “0” then I think you should be OK without submitting a transcript for 2012 and 2011.

The instructions for the EZ are essentially the same as the 864.... use total income for the 1040-filed years, and adjusted gross for the 1040EZ-filed years.

"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you."

"Life is not what it's supposed to be. It's what it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference."

No lie, I actually applied for a job at the local immigration office last night. If you can't beat 'em, INFILTRATE!

 Awesome! Good luck. We could use a (wo)man on the inside ;)

Also lol @ rogue NVC thread. To be honest I think that's their loss, I understand they want to stick together in the group they had for USCIS, but the best information flow is going to happen right here. Either they'll lack guidance or they'll have to pop over here to ask questions anyway. Following this main thread is an amazing learning tool, they're really missing out.
