A note to all Electronic Processing Canadian filers -

It is better to do a snail mail as you can check the delivery from courier and also find the date NVC scans the file. NVC sent us a checklist on April 30th for the two IR5 cases. We sent the replies same evening. On June 4 - one case got completed and the second was sent another checklist for which we had already sent email. We talked to three supervisors but they could not trace the lost email. We forwarded the April 30th email to supervisor to NVCinquiry and NVCElectronic but they still cannot trace our email of April 30th. So we are asked to resend the checklist reply and wait for 30 business days as the email was not traced. There is no automatic response or confirmation of receipt of the email. We will only find after 30days if NVC received our email. This EP system sucks.

Seems like people are getting a lot of check lists of the I-864. I did mine (no cosponsor, make about 48,000 a year) and it did not seem to complicated to me. What are the common pitfalls? I am also going to send it to my lawyer to check before I mail it in.

I'm on the I-130 Facebook group. We've been talking about using the AOS bar-coded cover sheet to send an IV package.

Many of us have been waiting for 20-30+ days to pay the IV fee. Some people on the I-130 Facebook group called NVC to report this problem. Some NVC agents suggested that we use the AOS bar-coded cover sheet to send our IV packages.

It's tempting to send my IV package next week using the AOS bar-coded cover sheet. However, I'm sending my original birth certificate and police certificates so I don't want them to go missing. If they lose my original documents, I'll have to replace them and it could take months.

I know we briefly talked about this issue on this thread. I was wondering if other people have called NVC and they got the same info that it's okay to use the AOS bar-coded cover sheet to send an IV package.

A lot of issues stem from more complicated AOS situations involving joint sponsors, use of assets, employment abroad, etc.

Without any of those issues, the main problems seem to be the income figures used for your last three years of tax returns and the line asking for address if different. Leaving that blank seems to be nearly a guaranteed checklist these days. Did you use the I-864 or the I-864EZ? There are very few places to misstep on the latter form, which helps.

Word of advice, do the I-864EZ. If it's just you and you're only sponsoring one immigrant and you're only using your salary to verify you meet the income requirements, you'll save yourself a lot of worry.

And, on the place in the form for your permanent address (if different from your mailing address), write N/A. Even though the instructions say to leave it blank, if you do, expect a check list!

Will do. Also I write N/A in every blank space regardless, habit I picked up on all gov docs from filing out my I-130 50 million times

Do you plan to attach your IRS transcripts or a copy of your return from 2013? The transcript is recommended, but if you attach your return, don't round the numbers!

And, when you complete the DS-261, if it appears as 'incomplete' a couple days later, don't touch it! Call NVC first! If you edit and re-submit, the clock starts over again to get your IV.

I'll be attaching my tax return, 2 year's tax transcripts, pay stubs, and employer letter since I just got a promotion and a raise at work. Also I don't round numbers unless instructed to lol. And I have read and noted the DS-261 thing. What will they do when you call them?

I have been checking to see if I can log into the portal with my Case # and IIN since last week. I've been receiving the message about my case not being available for processing, which I know from the wiki to mean that it's not been put into the system yet. Today, though, when I try to log in, I get the message that the Case # and IIN don't match their records, and I can't get past that page.

When I go to the CEAC visa status check page, and enter my Case #, I get the message that "Your search did not return any data." when previously it told me that my case was in process.

While I do want to change my case number, I have not yet asked the NVC to change it. Is it possible they've thrown out my case, or something? Or have they unassigned my previously assigned number? I'm trying to call them but am having the usual large amount of trouble getting through. Has this happened to anyone else?

in my mind i can't stop blaming my joint sponsor for being unorganized and making this stupid mistake.

I was told this as well, and did send my civil documents in with the AOS cover sheet so we will see if it makes a difference. I still can't pay the IV invoice but at least my 30 days of being scanned into their mail room has hopefully started. Many people are saying Don't do this but I guess it is all risk so up to you....good luck!

People confuse whether they should use Total Income or Adjusted Gross Income, which is dependent upon which tax form you filed (1040 or 1040EZ, respectively).

You use Adjusted Gross for the 1040EZ and Total Income for anything else, including 1040A
