Melbourne specific Medical check

Hello,

this question is directed at those who have had medicals done in Melbourne only and preferably within the past year or so..

I called up the Medibank clinic today to make a US Visa medical appointment as reccommended by the US-Syd Consulate.

They said they would call me back. They did. They asked me which medical I required.. I informed them for a K1 Fiance Visa.

More specifically they wanted to know was it an "Immigrant or Non Immigrant" Visa..

I asked the difference and he said the Immigrant visa has vaccination requirements, the Non-Imminigrant one does not. Based on that logic and what I have read on this forum about vaccinations I asked to book an appointment for a Immigrant Visa.

He then said hes procedure to scan my vaccination records and email them in prior to being able to book an appintment time. After reviewing my vaccinations (5-10 days) they will email me an available appointment time and I can email back and confirm.

1) Why is nothing straight forward and simple. I call, i wait for a call back, call back tells me to email documents, that they will pass those on to a professional to confirm it, so I can wait for a reply so I can reply back and have an appointment?

But such is life and if thats the procedure then i will follow,

My question though is.. is this usually typical of booking a visa medical at the Medibank Clinic on Swanston street? Am i better of trying to get an appointment at the other clinic?

I do have all my vaccination records, but back in 1989 we were only given Pink books with a rubber stamp date next to the different vaccinations. Half of my vaccinations which were introduced later on in my childhood that I then got are handwritten in.. Its not rocket science to figure out what I have and havnt had. And to be honest its hardly a genuine proof of anything.

If anyone could share their experience or a simple "this is normal do it" response it would be appreciated.

Vicky

Not sure about your first question, I used the Port Melbourne clinic which was the only option at the time. I just took all my vaccination records with me and he reviewed them on the spot.

No problem about your handwritten childhood vaccination records - that's all I had too, and they were accepted (mine were even older than yours and probably even crummier looking).

Medibank Health Services is not the place you want to be going to. I tried them and they don't understand what you need, they are mostly for Australian visa's.

Bridge Street Medical Clinic in Port Melb is the place to go.

Book in for a US visa medical and once the medical is complete they will either post or allow you to pick up results.

Costs are $430.

ur absolutely right! thanks for ur feedback.

..for furture reference if anyone is looking to book a medical in Melbourne I would not recommend going through the Medibank services based purely on my experience and confusion . Further more when u try to make an appointment with Medibank services your speaking to a general "call centre" which doesnt really have an understanding of what you need and they may provide you with conflicting info. Stick with Port Melbourne

If you look at the Sydney Consulate details on VJ it has basically the same warming information about Medibank. I updated all that info about a month ago as this was exactly the same problem I had with them. My call got answered by a call centre and a person with no clue about the visa medical required asked to leave a number and someone from WA!! would call back.

After waiting 6 hours I gave up and booked with Port Melb. I got a call back from medibank the next morning wanting to know more information about the medical required because they couldn't find it in their system.

This is when she explained how they usually do Australian Medicals and not US.

My CN won't come up until next year but I did get some advice last week from Dr Charles on a health issue. His response was prompt, polite and informative. Seems like a nice bloke so, come next year, me and the fam will be bothering him for a day with our medicals!
