surrender green card during oath ceremony

I am a minor child of a naturalized U.S. citizen. I submitted form N-600 in January this year to acquire my citizenship. Due to a travel plan, I recently applied for a U.S. passport and turned in my green card. I have received a letter notifying me the schedule of the oath ceremony. I was told to bring and surrender my green card (or any U.S. travel document) during the ceremony on the letter. I do not have and will not get my green card back after I received my passport? Can I bring in my U.S. passport as a proof of my pre-own green card? Will USCIS take away my passport? I will be travel soon after the ceremony.

Your passport is the only proof you need to indicate citizenship. You do not need to take the oath unless you are trying to obtain the citizenship certificate. Travel as you wish using the passport.

Thanks for the reply. However, I do want to obtain my citizenship certificate. Would my passport be a proper evidence to show on the day of the ceremony? I am only concerning if they will take away my passport.

You will get your green card back when the passport office is done with it. They will mail it back either with the passport or separate but you will get it back.

Yes. This is exactly what took place when we applied for my daughters citizenship which was granted. Her G card was sent back with other docs separate from the passport.

Then your passport will be what you can present. Nothing wrong with wanting the certificate other than the fee of about 650 bucks. Either way you are now a US citizen.
