Hi,

I'm getting ready to file ROC next month and trying to gather documents together. I have a question about copying my debit card, as well as my spouse's for joint account evidence. Can I blur our cards numbers on the copies? How do you guys send sensitive evidences that contain financial information etc?

Thanks!

I kept them. Maybe I'm naÏve, but I figured that if the government or government worker would want to steal our identity, it would be more than easy with the databases available. In addition, it would be clear that the numbers are the same. If you really want to blot them out though, I would keep the first four and last four digits as proof that the cards are connected. Are if you send the entire number, just order your free credit reports over the next few months to keep an eye on it.

I did blur part of the credit card numbers out, but I left enough of them visible (such as the first 8) to show that both credit cards were on the same account. As for bank statements, my bank statements already came partly Xed out, so no edits needed there.

Why a photocopy of the cards? Just include a copy of the credit card statement, or two … the account is in both your names, yes? Most credit card statements 'x' out all but the last four digits of the account number. The account number is irrelevant. Both of your names on the statement is relevant.

Otherwise, yes, I would block out most / all of the account numbers. You never know where this information will end up - some disgruntled USPS or FedEx employee dropping of the envelope in some back alley somewhere, some government employee in a financial mess thinks they can get away with the theft of a few identities, etc., etc., etc. I would protect this information as much as possible.

Sure, if want to make it very easy for an unscrupulous individual. While you're at it, be sure to include a copy of the back of the credit card too …

Oh, thanks, novedsac! Now that I think about it, it's suffice to just send our bank statements with both of our names on it.

I read some post where people sent out photocopies of their credit cards and it triggers my paranoia a little bit.

Thanks, again!

We had accounts that were not joint, but listed as users on each others accounts. In those cases the names do not both show on the statements, so we used photocopies of the cards themselves. Blacked out all but the last 4 numbers. The purpose is just to show you share an account, not to give them all your account numbers and private financial details.

You know that if somebody used ur cc without ur authorization u r not liable for the charge ?

Second do you know the process of obtaining clearance to work with federal department espically DHS. I am not gonna argue with u now. But personally, I work in IT and I know wherever u use ur credit card there is somebody in that company who would have access to ur cc#. I gave my personal opinion :) you don't need to be funky.

Didn't Snowden have a federal security clearance ?

Maybe the highest since he worked for the NSA. But, you are not getting my point which is there is always risk and I am considering this risk as not exisited when it comes to DHS. You wanna prove your argument and I am just giving my personal opinion. you can tell uscis that u are not going to send ur ss# and DOB because u are afraid of somebody abuseing these information.
