Hi all!i hope someone will be able to answer my questions about the ds-260, I've been looking everywhere in the forum but found no answers.

1- where they ask you places you lived should I only put where I had my residency?i was an aupair in Spain for a summer, does this count too?

2-about previous visas..I've had been issued a student visa f1 that I never used because I started working in my country and decided not to leave anymore, I contacted the school in the US and let them know I changed my mind and they cancelled it..should I list it anyway?

3-I already have a SSN, where they ask if I want a SSN issued should I say yes or no?

Thanks a lot!!!

Answers:

  • It counts, the only difference is long you were there. If greater than or equal to 6 months, then you will require a police clearance from Spain.
  • Yes
  • Since you already have an SSN, it's yours for life. You would answer no to this question on that basis.

What is the exact question the application is asking you? I suspect the answer is that it was cancelled. When you answer yes, simply indicate you returned the visa because you cancelled your plan to enroll in the college. Tell the truth.

The question on the form states: have any of your US visas ever been cancelled or revoked?

My visa was never cancelled by a consular officer neither revoked, I just never used it once it was issued and the school said they were going to cancel my SEVIS (I-20 record).

Then you've provided a great example of why one should avoid the use of pronouns like "it" as in "cancelled it" when asking for advice on critical topics. If you were issued the visa and then simply did not use it, the visa wasn't cancelled, so answer "NO". They key is first read the question carefully, interpret it literally and answer accurately. This is correct for EVERY question that will come up in this process including the visa interview.
