What I don't get is why she's front page news in the Daily Express about 5 days a week a decade after she died..... WHYYYYY????

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Yup, the man just can't let it go. Publicity anyone?

His character (more accurately, the lack thereof) was evidenced greatly during the Neil Hamilton Libel Trial in 1999 through his claim that he "did not know that giving MP's gifts constituted bribery" (when al-Fayed's native Egypt is known for quite-open corruption)--binning the court's contention that he showed "the genuine concern of a grieving parent" (nothing genuine about al-Fayed).

I find Fayed a complete waste of space. After Diana died he was constantly on the TV in the UK, putting out conspiracy theories, stirring the pot and being generally annoying.

I have to say though, the cheesiest thing imaginable is the stupid STUPID statue he has, in Harrod's, of Dodi and Diana entwined and releasing a bird. It is unbelievably tacky and whenever I saw it I would have to laugh and shake my head.

The ULTIMATE cash in.

The day he had his Royal Warrant removed was a good day. I just hope the British Government never cave in and give him British citizenship. He has been trying for years and, to my knowledge, he still hasn't been given it. When he applies they tell him he is "not of good character"...

which reminds me of an old Peanuts cartoon where Snoopy is sobbing after a snowman starts melting--however, Charlie Brown notices that he is NOT too sensitive as to avoid eating the carrot (nose). So, al-Fayed hasn't exactly been so grieving as to not exploit his son's memory.

He proved his character (or more accurately lack thereof) when he decided to destroy Hamilton. IMO, they should give him deportation papers and escort him onto the next flight to Cairo (or Alexandria).
I think we will be hearing a lot more about "conspiracy theories" since its the 10th anniversary of her death this year. It doesn't seem possible but it is.

Unfortunately, we'll continue hearing about it till al-Fayed is eight-feet-under!

This from Wikipedia:

In 2003, Fayed moved from Surrey, UK to Switzerland, alleging a breach in an agreement with the Her Majesty's Inland Revenue Commissioners. In January 2005, a Geneva newspaper stated that Fayed had moved again, to Monaco, to take advantage of a more favourable tax climate. Fayed is now thought to carry a UAE passport and has given up any claim upon British citizenship.
And this, which doesn't surprise me:
Mohamed Abdel Moneim Fayed (Arabic: محمد الفايد ) (born January 27, 1929) is an Egyptian businessman. He styles himself Mohamed al-Fayed, the al being an Arabic designation, to which some of his critics state he is not entitled.

He really is annoying...

hrmm, I dunno....of course al-Fayed is an attn ####### and the Diana memorial in Harrod's is awful.

BUT

He owns Harrod's (or did last time I checked)....he stimulates the economy by owning an international landmark where green tourists flock to buy branded sh!t for ridiculous amounts & employs countless Brits. He should be granted citizenship based on that.

By that logic, Venezuelan president Chavez should also be granted US citizenship since the Venezuelan government owns Citgo:

  1. stimulates US economy (through commerce--selling of petrol, coffee, snacks)
  2. provides jobs to large numbers of Americans (directly at its outlets, indirectly to snack/junk-food and coffee companies, refinery workers, lorry drivers)
  3. provides business opportunities (owning franchised petrol-pump stations) to a somewhat smaller (but still large) number of Americans.

Tradeoff: although no Citgo petrol-pump station qualifies as "international landmark", Harrods also does not provide business opportunities (except for its owner).

(and Chavez--as noted by Dean--is, like Fayed, an attention-seeking chop_)

Eh, maybe you have a point there....but I'm not totally up to the min with al-Fayed, so my knowledge of him is somewhat limited.

I don't know -- I by no means like Al-Fayed but I kind of like the fact he's kind of a thorn in the side of the British Establishment (the Hamiltons are bigger chopf*cks than he is and I really could give a sh*t about most of the royal family, certainly not their "problems"). At the end of the day, he lost his son and the sniffy attitudes of the press must have really grated at the time.

I did have a friend who works at Harrods who said Al-fayed always selected the most attractive blondes who worked on the floor for the cushy jobs working in the "back office"

Not sure how Hamiltons are bigger chop_'s than Fayed (especially as they've been sidelined since 1999). However, I'm no royalist due to the Queen giving Canadians two "gifts which keep on taking" (approvals for Senate expansion, given to Pierre-eh in 1970's/1980's and to Myron Baloney in 1990; she also gave another such "gift" during Cretin's term, but by then I'd already started working in US).
