Hi everyone, I have a question about the I 134 form. This is for the k1 visa. For the past two years I have worked abroad and have filed my taxes and in each case I have met or exceeded the limit for a two person household based on the poverty line listed by USCIS. Overall, I have three years of tax returns, including a year in the us, where I have met the guidelines; additionally I have accumulated between twenty five and thirty thousand dollars in savings. Will this be enough with no co sponsor or will I require one? Thanks everyone for the help!

If you have exceeded the poverty guidelines, you should be fine and no co-sponsor will needed. My fiance provided me saving account information from 2 different banks, stock and bonds, insurance policies, and the CO only asked I-134 (original, signed, and dated), W-2, and 2012 tax return. You don't need to provide 3 years of tax returns, only the recent one. For get a better idea, please go to Vietnam portal's US embassy on VJ. Good luck for the interview!

Thanks so much for your reply. I just wonder that I have heard that foreigner income will not be counted . In that case, how much money should I have in my bank account? (I live in California ) and also do I have to apply for a job back home first in order to have an employment letter..

The foreign income will not count because it will not continue. You will be moving to the US and you will need a new job. If you want to be approved with assets alone, then you would need a bare minimum of $60k for a household size of 2.

Employment letter? You mean a letter from your employer that is used to prove your current income for the affidavit of support? Yes, in order to provide proof of your current annual income, you would need to have the new permanent job first.

Thanks you for your help . I have a new job in the US that I will start a few days after the interview . Will this be ok with no co sponsor plus $30k in the Bank of America . Also is there an appeal if our visa get rejected due to financial issue ?

They will most likely tell you to supply whatever financial documents they need before they will approve the visa, a 221g paper stating what they want from you. It is like an RFE at the interview phase.

I want to say proving a copy of your job offer letter and a co-sponsor should be enough, but I do not know how strict Vietnam is about the affidavit of support and use of co-sponsors. You would need to ask about that in the Vietnam regional forum. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/136-vietnam/

We don't have a co sponsor . We only have what I have mentioned above. We r both young, single and well educated. Is it a good sign for us? So they will know I will be able to support her.

Again I only have a job offer back home with will gonna be $3k a month or more plus $30k in bank account ,plus 1 year tax in us ,1 year in Korea and 1 year in Vietnam. We are really confused atm. If there are any advices you could give for us . It will be a big help.

Ah, sorry I misread that and thought it said you do have a co-sponsor. They will not approve the affidavit of support with just a job offer. $30k is not enough for assets only.

So in case if we get a co-sponsor . Do I have to have any asset or job offer? What is the approval rate for k1 visa with co- sponsor ?

That is consulate specific. You need to ask those that have gone through Vietnam before. The co-sponsor would probably be more accepted if you did show some assets and the job offer though.
