Do you want the Social Security Administration to issue a Social Security number and a card?

Do you authorize disclosure of information from this form to the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, and such other U.S. Government agencies as may be required for the purposes of assigning you a social security number (SSN) and issuing you a Social Security card and do you authorize the Social Security Administration to share your SSN with the Department of Homeland Security?

WHAT do I answer to this?

Answer Yes.....It puts everything in motion for your SSN# :)

The applicant's response does not limit or restrict the Government's ability to obtain his or her SSN, or other information on this form,

for enforcement or other purposes as authorized by law.

If you say yes, the beneficiary will be assigned a Social Security Number and receive their number and card in about 8 weeks after they enter the US. Or, you can say "no" and take the trip to your local Social Security Office and the beneficiary can apply in person. As another poster said, most people answer "yes" to both of these questions.

I just received the email saying that our approved case was shipped today (4/23) to the Department of State for visa processing. Is there any difference between cases that are shipped the NVC and the cases that are shipped to the Department of State? :)

It looks like NSC waits for 6-7 days to forward cases to NVC after NOA2. They forwarded mine after 7 days of the approval date. :clock:

They really needed to drink more coffee and RedBull to forward our cases sooner! :bonk:

Oh, well. I'm happy that we no longer deal with NSC. :)

Even answering yes is a hit or miss. It was a miss for me. But, as recommended here, since no SSN card appeared after 3 weeks from POE, I had to go to a local SSA office and apply in person. Received the SSN card in the mail 10 days later :)

Hi guys,

I have a question :)

My packages (AOS, IV) are delivered (today). How long does it take to review (touch at least) the papers?

It's taking them a week to log it and then another week or so to review it.

Also you can check the spreadsheet for estimates.

Congrats on the delivery! I know that feels good! Now NVC has to scan the packets into their system. That took 5 days for me. You can expect a minimum of two weeks after that scan date - and maybe as much as 4-5 weeks.

Just remember guys, the case complete email isn't actually needed for anything and doesn't tell you anything you don't know from speaking to an operator. In fact, my letter told me less, because it didn't mention my actual completion date. The case complete email is just a finger-wag reminding you not to book any travel, sell off worldly possessions, etc. :P The good stuff comes in the interview letter! Hopefully those will start going out in a week or so :) I can't wait to see the good news pouring in!

Samreen, you might need to say a few more words - I'm not sure I understand your question...

What I THINK you are asking is: How long does it take to file an amendment to 2013 taxes to change from single to either MFS or MFJ?

Is that what you want to know? If so, the USC just needs to file an amendment to 2013 taxes. If you need paperwork to show for an interview, the actual copy of the amendment (plus the 2013 return or transcript) should be OK.

Sukie

Lol yes suki my question was how long does it take to get the IRS tax ammendment to be done when it's changed from single to MFJ? As in if we do it now till when can we be ready with the tax transcripts to send to NVC?

Hi BOS_LHR! I just want to ask how did you find out about your interview date. Did you call NVC or just waited for an email? Thanks! :)

You'll receive an email the same day your interview is scheduled. I had a tip off that mine might be coming because another UK filer had an interview scheduled just ahead of me, but my own notice came probably within an hour from then. They have pretty prescribed scheduling times for the most part so you'll know when the action starts :) You can certainly call if you want but unlike the rest of the NVC process it won't really save you any time here.

I am worried about my AOS package. My joint-sponsor told me the other day that she got an extension on her 2013 taxes. But on her i-864 she ticked off the box that says "I have attached a copy of my Federal tax return for the most recent tax year". Does this mean that I have to wait for her to file her taxes before I can submit the AOS package?

If not then what do I need to include? and how will I persuade her to give me the correct documents? lol

All the USC has to do is send in the paperwork for the amendment. It will probably take the IRS 6-8 weeks to process the amendment, because they are currently busy with all the original submissions. Because of your timeframe, the USC may not get an amended transcript in time for the AOS submission. But...when the USC puts together the AOS packet, have a copy of the amended return (plus copies of all W-2s and all 1099s) ready to submit to NVC.

NVC probably doesn't care how the USC has filed. But...the IRS DOES care - so it's best to show that the two of you are responsible tax payers and that you realized you made a mistake and are fixing it ASAP!
