K1 middle name issue

My visa has my middle name in it. I am already in the US and went to file for my SSN but the guy there told me things were wrong because under given name in the visa it had both my first and middle names. It didn't even occur to me that it shouldn't have my first and middle name there.

I am scared I did something horribly wrong. Does anyone have any advice or any idea what I should do next.

Nothing to worry about. All visa approval goes through NECESSARYAP stage after an interview. This type of AP is mostly like final administrative paperwork being done, and it includes the process of getting your visa ready and placed in your passport, your immigration envelop package ready for you. If all goes well normally that status should changed to ISSUED in a short time.

I can understand the shock of seeing those two words, because it had me for a while too until my status, and the rest of my family status change in 24 hours after the administrative phase.

Congratulations!

we had a similar issue with middle names on visas...one option for you (which is what we did) is to go to an attorney and get an affadavit saying you are both of those people. meaning you are the same person. it helped us to move our case along. good luck!

Thanks for that. My case has already been completed and I am through POE already

Hi Tassie,

I've had two J-1 visas in the past, and in both cases they put both my first and middle names under 'Given Name'. They are both given names, so technically it is printed correctly. I had no issues when I applied for my SSN. I think perhaps you just got unlucky with the guy at the Social Security Office.

Thanks a billion for the reassurance.

I think it is a case of the incorrect information being put on the I-94. Will ring around the USCIS and CBP to see if I can get that straightened out.

Under GIVEN NAME it is supposed to have both your first and middle name, guy at SSA is an idiot.... nothing new there, they hire from the Forrest Gump school of "stupid is as stupid does"
