Dealing with a previous marriage in a high fraud country.

To mimolicious and Ihavequestions, and BeccaBecca, and others, thank you for your responses. I know my relationship. I know what happens sometimes with fraud. Whether Muslim men can marry three wives or four wives in Egypt is really not relevant here. I thank you all for pointing that out to me, and I appreciate your knowledge, but I'm seeking advice on how to overcome the red flags. I am aware of the red flags, which was the point of the post in the first place. No one has actually given me any advice solid about what to do about it and how he can prepare for the interview.

its what i noticd here, when u ask question they never answer you, but they just talk and talk bla bla.

Evidence of talking a lot, meeting in person, spending time with each other's family. So, Skype logs, boarding passes, photos, maybe FB/email logs. IMO, I think even with this, with him being from Egypt and leaving his wife to be with you (looks a lot like he just wants to move stateside), you'll go through AP anyway.

.

Thanks.

I know AP means administrative processing, but what does that mean? What do they do?

This is not meant toward anyone, it is my frustration, but people all over the world leave their spouses for other people everyday. After 20 years of marriage, my uncle left my aunt for another woman, whom he married. It happens. This "it automatically means he only wants a Visa" stuff is crazy.

hmmm.. what have you contributed to this forum, other than asking a bunch of questions of regarding packet 3 (when you already have a lawyer?), and being rude to people here when you don't get the answers you like? rolleyes.gif

I haven't been rude to anyone, so I hope this isn't directed at me.

Is he on good terms with the ex? I don't know if it would matter but is there some sort of proof they split and when? I know here we have separation agreements before sometimes but not sure about Egypt. That is my red flag overcoming piece, could be yours as well. Maybe the wife would write a sworn statement of some kind for him saying when they split, etc etc.

Also attend the interview if able. At least let him bring your passport to the CO and say she is here with me. It looks good and can help sway a CO's mind a bit.

Not directed at you at all.. it is the other poster. smile.png

I think it would be best if you could check out MENA subforum the http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/97-middle-east-and-north-africa/

The ladies there will be able to help you better.

You have to look at your relationship objectively from the CO point of views, what is social norm in US, is not the same in Egypt.

Good luck to you.

She wasn't referring to you with that comment.

Unfortunately, the fact is that even though people get divorced all over the world, there are certain countries that are known for high fraud (Morocco being one as well) and so they are going to go through the list of possible fraud factors and you will have to show them that they are wrong.

For example, even though young people in Morocco are a lot different than the older generation, the consulate still considers the cultural norms and expectations of that society. I am not really sure how you will be able to show them that he is not going to come here, later divorce you, and remarry his wife. I think that will be hard to show, but providing as much evidence as possible of your relationship with him, coupled with the sincerity of his answers at the interview will be what you can do.

AP is Administrative Processing and happens with many males from Egypt, whether you have red flags or not. It means they will be reviewing your case, perhaps interviewing his relatives, neighbors, etcetera, to find out more about him, among other things.

This could be tricky because if it appears she is on good terms with him, it could seem that she is in cohoots with the "plan", if there was such a plan.

I know you said that he didn't have internet after 2006, but did you keep in touch at all between then and 2013? letters sent in actual mail? This could help prove that you have a bona fide relationship, I would think.

Totally didn't think of this. Perhaps visit a lawyer in Egypt and get some sort of formal statement on when the two actually parted ways?

AP is essentially them researching this person more. Could take a few weeks, few months, a year.

I really, really recommend you head over to the MENA forum, to talk to other people who are also dealing with the same consulate.

As you are working elsewhere in the ME perhaps there are other options.

Hi Elchelle,

Have you talked to a lawyer about this? Some give free consultations and they might be able to provide you with some answers as opposed to VJ people's opinions. There might be lawyers who specialize in these types of cases and can give you professional guidance.

Best of luck on your journey! I hope that you and your love are reunited soon.

Hang around a bit, probably more unusual cases on VJ than any Lawyer will see.

Not necessary for now, could be worse if the lawyer isn't aware of the particularities of this post. And even if he was put in AP and such, lawyers can't do much about that. I think, better save that money for another trip together or something.
