And I'm sort of having anxiety. Not about the marriage. About the border crossing to go do this. We're marrying in Boston and I'm so excited about that. I'm just also sort of anxietying over dealing with the nice immigration folks at Pearson. I know I need to tell them the purpose of my trip is my wedding, or I'm committing fraud, but I'm terrified they won't let me into the US!

I have a copy of the signature page for my lease agreement showing that I sublet. I have a note from the girl I sublet from saying that I have paid April's rent and utilities. I have a letter from my work saying that I am due back on the 19th of March.

Do you think they'll let me through? What should I say or not say? Anyone have advice?

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

IF they ask you the purpose of your trip, you could start by saying "pleasure" . If you're asked ANYTHING further, you could say, "I'm getting married and returning to Canada on March 19th when my husband and I will be starting the CR1 process." and have your evidence of ties to Canada handy.

When my husband and I decided to get married during the holidays, we knew I would be returning to Canada a married lady. That being said, when I crossed the border (by car, mind you) at Pembina, ND, I only answered what they asked (always). They don't need any details and if they do, they will ask. They asked the purpose of my visit, and that was to "visit my fiancé". I ALWAYS carry my car lease, six months of bank statements, employment letter, apartment lease to prove ties to Canada... and they have never asked to see anything or questioned me further.

It is not fraud to enter the US to marry, only with intent to stay. Answer only what they ask for, always be truthful and pleasant and you shouldn't have any problems.

Congratulations and good luck!

When my fiance (now husband) crossed over last July, he did tell them the purpose for his visit was because he was getting married. They just asked him where we intend to live (who is going where) and when we are filing the papers. I do not even think he had to show them anything. But just be prepared and be honest because every border person is different. Good luck and congrats smile.png

We did the same thing - when my (now) Canadian husband came to visit and we got married he was truthful and answered that the purpose of his visit was to visit his fiance and meet some of my family. That was all they asked and it was fine. He also always carries documents showing his ties to Canada and now the documents showing our visa application. He has not had any issues with coming into the US. We actually went on a trip to Mexico for our 1 year anniversary a couple weeks ago. I was kind of nervous if there would be any issue with him coming back from mexico to the US. No problem whatsoever.

I think it is just the power a border agent has to deny entry that gets us all nervous even when there is nothing to be nervous about. However, both of us have always had a pleasant experience crossing the border both ways.

OP - Congrats and I hope the wedding is absolutely wonderful! luv.gif
