Confused about the expiration dates on K-1 visa

Hi:

My fiance just received the K-1 visa from VN. Its expiration date is Aug. 12, 2014, and I understand that.

However, her visa also states the expiration of my petition is May 09, 2014. And this confuses me.

Would you be please so kind to explain this for me.

Do not worry about the expiration date of the petition. The petition was already approved and you had the successful interview already. Not sure why they even print that info on the visa as it is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the expiration of the K-1 visa itself right now. You must enter the US with the K-1 before that date. At that time, it will become null and void and your status in the US will depend on the I-94. You will have 90 days from entry to marry.

It is really weird. I don't have the expiration date of my petition printed on K-1 visa.

If you have the visa already, you can ignore anything related to expiration of the petition. The important date is your visa expiration date. You MUST enter the US by that date.

I checked my wife's visa and don't see any petition date information. Only dates are the issue date and expiration date of the visa.
