CR-1/IR-1 Schedule for Montreal interview

If I understand correctly, for CR-1/IR-1 the interview is scheduled by Montreal, not the interviewee. We plan to be overseas for 2 months (next Dec / Jan). The info from the Montreal consulate on the VJ website says "Approx. 1-2 months from the time file is completed at NVC".

Approx Waiting Time for interview date from when the Consulate receives the package from the NVC: Approx. *2-6 months from the time P3 checklist is sent back. Approx. 1-2 months from the time file is completed at NVC for CR1/IR1. These are not highball numbers, they are approximately accurate. Expect a long wait for your interview. See the thread in the Canada forum for people waiting on Montreal.

Any suggestions on how to strategize so that an interview isn't scheduled when we're away? Is there a small step involved sometime before then where you can drag your feet for a few weeks if necessary? We're starting the I-130 process in the comings months and just trying to figure out when makes the most sense -- other people's NOA2 and NVC times are all over the place!

USCIS
6/12 - I-130 sent
6/13 - I-130 received
6/16 - NOA1
7/01 - NOA2
7/02 - USCIS sent packet to NVC
NVC
7/10 - NVC received packet
7/18 - Case number assigned
8/05 - DS-261 completed
8/08 - AOS invoiced (and paid)
8/12 - AOS scanned
8/27 - IV invoiced (and paid)
9/05 - IV scanned
10/21 - Case complete
10/30 - Interview scheduled
The rest
12/9 - Interview
12/12 - Visa received
12/19 - POE
DONE!

Well just to get my NOA 2 I had to wait ten months and I don't have a case number yet with NVC so if you haven't submitted yet, I doubt you'll need to do anything to slow down the process as it's already so slow

Although the Montreal embassy does schedule your interview for you, you are allowed to change it... so if it happens that your interview is booked for while you're going to be away, you'll have the chance to reschedule.

And when you do that, someone else who's waiting a long time for their interview will be able to reschedule their interview earlier, to take your now vacant time slot... everybody wins!

Is your timeline updated?

Easy, just take your time at the NVC so that you don't get a case complete until you're back. Then your interview won't be until after you're back.

Changing an interview at Montreal is torturous. I don't suggest it.

I was going to say--contacting Mtl is easy.....BUT getting a response, not so much!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Don't think Montreal schedules your interview. NVC schedules your IR/CR interview. Thats why it does not show up on the usvisa-info.com. K1's are scheduled by Montreal.

Having gone through the IR/CR process recently. I can tell you that after you send in your i864 AOS docs and DS-260. You should expect to have NVC review & approve your case in 25-30 days. Once approved, they will schedule your interview for 1-1.5 month after.

If you get a checklist from NVC after sending in your docs (like I did), it will take another 30 days from the date you e-mail your response to checklist. Don't even think about rescheduling, when I tried to see what dates are available - the earliest I could find was 400 days after my original appointment. Try to make it on your appointment date. If you want to delay it, do it by sending your AOS package and DS260 a little late. Good luck
