I think the ability to register at the DMV should be done away with because dmv workers aren't trained properly enough to know that LPRs can't vote and many LPRs don't really understand that they are not legally entitled to vote. Good luck and keep us updated.

I know this is kind of off-topic, but I totally agree! When I went to the DMV, the lady there pushed that paper towards me and told me "Sign this if you want to register to vote". I had to explain to her that I am not a US Citizen, and that it would be fraud for me to do so. I was a little shocked at how easy it is for a foreigner to make a MAJOR mistake in your life.

It is your responsibility to obey the laws , not knowing is not an excuse. If I were to hand you a gun and say use this if you want to rob a bank does that make things OK ?

Not quite the case here. You don't know what you don't know. If someone you deem trustworthy and knowledgeable tells you to do something, like sign a voter registration form, why would you doubt them?

People make mistakes all the time on account of that.

How did you originally enter the US, did you still have a Green Card, I know they used to issue ones that were not time limited, now they are good for 10 years.
