NVC Filers - February 2014

For Canadians - My case complete was April 15th 2013 and my interview was June 3rd, 2013. I did not send 2012 taxes with the AOS information and it was not asked for at the NVC stage. My husband filed for an extension and I brought the proof it was filed for, but that proof was not asked for at the interview. They simply asked to have my I-864EZ (since I did EP) and that was it. Other countries may ask to see the current year's taxes after the April 15th date, but Montreal did not.

Guys everytime I call the NVC (well last hour), it rings and comes up the NVC is closed to inclement weather. Is it really closed? Its clear skys here.

Another question:

I was an Au Pair back in 2008/2009 in the US, so I had a J1 Visa and received a SSN. Of course the SSN is expired by now, because it was only valid with the J1, but I believe I will have the same number once my Green Card is done.

My husband and I are wondering now that especially with the tax stuff if we should put that number in there or stay with the NRA for the SSN? I mean technically for my name there is an excisting SSN, doesnt matter if its valid right now or not.

Anyone any excperience with that?

I had visa (not J tho) with SSN and came back to my home country about 3 years ago.

I am not a social security expert, but I dont think the number expires.

My understanding is, as long as the name on SSN is the same as your name now, you can use it.

I went to US embassy to change SSN name after getting married because there is no social security office in this country.

They don't issue new card with new name until moving back to the US tho.

Name has been changed in their system.

Guys, the weather was not supposed to be that bad - but the storm moved more further north and east than expected. I'm in the Hudson Valley of New York, and we got 3-4 fresh inches today. I got my truck stuck in a snow bank this afternoon, and spent a whole hour trying to dig it out. So I'm sure New Hampshire folks wanted to get home before it got too bad.

We are very winter-weary up here.

100% this. When I saw the forecast for today, having just been buried under fresh snow on Saturday, and still with feet of it piled up everywhere from the big storm a couple of weeks ago...

I take public transit to work so I don't have to worry about road conditions, but a number of my friends were posting photos online as they sat stuck in traffic for hours trying to get home in the mess. Very ready for winter to be over -- and for NVC to get back to business as usual.

Sure wish that was the case! 60 degree temps don't happen here until May or so -- NVC is about an hour north of me. Snowy weather tapers off during March ("in like a lion, out like a lamb") but it's not unusual to get some flurries on into April. At least the show-stopping weather should be done for the season sooner rather than later.

I just called NVC also and got the same recording. They made me check the weather for Portsmouth which is 25F with no snow atm. I guess they didn't want to take any risk lol.

Is it necessary to file I864EZ just because we do EP? I did EP in my case but filed I864 both from petitioner and a joint sponsor.

The way I did it was:

Calling from the US to Mexico

011 = number to call out side the US

52 = number of the country calling

664 = Area Code

###-#### = telephone number .

So I the it looks like this:

011 52 664 ####-####

It went thru just fine.

I tried it but didn't let me.

Beneficiary's phone number is free format so I can type long phone number.

But petitioer's phone number has US style format, which shows" (___) ___-___"

Only 10 digit number can fit there...

If I were to choose EP for Montreal, and filed my forms electronically, could my US husband file the AOS by snail mail? Or is it an 'all or nothing' when it comes to EP?

He's just worried he might miss something in scanning all the documents from himself (I864), our co-sponsor (I864), and the co-sponsor's husband as they filed taxes jointly (I864a).
