Translations of Documents: Urgent Question!

I am worried and confused. My fiance will be interviewing in Juarez for his visa. He is Mexican, he was born in Mexico and his birth certificate and "police record" are in Spanish. Does he need these documents translated?

I am asking this for two reasons. I was told that the documents need translated, but not notarized and only by someone that declares they are competent. I found this on the US Visa's website, "The Immigrant Visa Process" http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare.html:%C2'>

"Translated Documents - All documents not written in English or in the official language of the country in which the interview takes place must be accompanied by a translation in English. Translations must be certified by a competent translator and notarized. Note: Review interview instructions for the embassy or consulate where you will be interviewed (step 2 above) for any additional document translation requirements."

... in the "note" in the above paragraph, there are no other specific translation directions for the interview specific for Juarez.

To me, the quoted paragraph is telling me that if the documents are in Spanish, they don't need translated.

What is the truth? What is the experiences others have had?

(sorry, feeling panicky)... Thank you all in advance!

That is correct. All documents must be translated into English. Your fiancee can do it if they are competent and make a statement as such on the translation. Or it can just be taken to that specializes in this. In my wife's country I just used a photo copy shop that provided translations. Notary not required.

From what I've read from other members from non-english speaking countries, the documents must be translated by a competent person or someone certified to translate their native language into english. You can check the discussion forums and find discussions from Mexico, I'm sure there'll be handy advice. Goodluck!

They don't have to be translated unless the documents are on a language other than where the consulate is, in this case, if they are all in spanish and the interview is in Juarez they don't need to be translated.

I have read the detailed instructions given by the Juarez Consulate and nowhere in there does it say that anything has to be translated to english, however they will keep any original copies of birth, marriage, or divorce certificates.

I just had my interview, and didn't bring translation... but when we sent the I.129, we sent a translation of the birth certificate

Did you receive your visa? for proof of relationship, did you have messages between you and your fiance? Were the conversations in English or Spanish? What about your police certificate? was it translated?

Thank you everyone!

well... i was approved, but haven't received just yet sad.png

i didn't translate the police certificate, and the CO didn't check any of the extra proof of relationship i had with me... he merely checked the file he already had...

I am curious, which day did you have your interview? Today, Friday? How did you know you were approved? Where are you having your visa sent? Juarez?

How did you know the CO didn't check your extra proof of relationship?

Thanks for your time!

on the 15th.... so don't count on receiving it right away....

he didn't look at the extra info, cause he didn't ask for it... when they check first the papers, they collect only the ones that are mandatory

Laiza, you have been waiting a long time! Where did you have your visa sent? to a DHL in Juarez? This might explain the wait for you.

I know of a wife and daughter of an applicant waiting for 5 days for their visas in Juarez, but I thought the wait was due to processing two visas. Then there was another person that left for home city after her interview and her visa arrived before her (the next day following the interview)

Thank you!
