Just to add a quick question to this..

I'm not quite at this part yet.. But I was trying to order all my info so I'm ready.. And I only have the short form Ontario BC.. Will that not be accepted?

I do also have a valid passport?

You need a valid passport and LONG form birth certificate with both parents names on it.

As stated, you'll need a long form. Most Brits and Canadians I know only have their short-form ordinarily, so you'll need to obtain a long-form. It's usually a simple process to do so.

Your passport also needs to be valid for at least six months from your date of crossing over.

FYI, you can renew your passport up to a year before it actually expires.

random note: just got told this when I went to renew mine, apparently changing your name on your passport isn't a simple name change. It's a new application pretty much. Can't use simplified renewal or anything. Looks like I'll be traveling under my maiden name for quite a while after I finally get down there and tie the knot...lol

Other thing: costs about $100 more to renew your passport when you're down in the states.

order a long form birth certificate as soon as you can. They take awhile to get and you'll need it at the interview.

In short, anyone holding a passport issued by a so-called "six month club" country is exempt from the requirement for their passport to be valid for six months beyond the duration of their planned stay in the US.

Him didn't realize we were exempt from that requirement.

Either way, it does still cost about $100 more to renew your passport from the us vs renewing it while you still live here, so that may still be a consideration.

The British government also fleeces you for filing for a British passport renewal abroad.

From the UK it costs £72.50 / US$120.

From the US it's just under £150 / US$250. Daylight robbery, and they know it.

While the CBP may not say that the passport needs to be over 6 months (and for normal entry it doesn't, mine was due to expire in 2 months and I entered) but for the VISA it does need to be 6 months past the interview date because of the length the visa is good for after the interview (which is 6 months from the medical for Canada.)

That's correct, the CBP answer specifically says "visitors", so wouldn't apply to people travelling to the US on a K-1 or immigrant visa.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer and I have the right one!

So, my Ontario long form Birth Cert they sent me, is nothing like the one shown on the website above (of course that one is BC) but did any other ON born peeps have their long form BC be hand written info your parents would have written when you were born, but printed with the registered seal?

Am I just really old? lol

My long form ON BC is the same as well. All the pertinent information was written in by my mother.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer and I have the right one!
