Does a rushed marriage look sketchy?

Hi everyone, here's our situation.

So I am a US citizen living in France while I work at CERN. There, I met the the love of my life in mid 2012 and we've been living together in France for over a year.

His work contract ended in Sept 2013, and we have had the worst of luck. Two things went wrong. Problem 1 - His contract wasn't extended in time so he had to go back to his home country (Israel). We had 90 days before he had to go, so we tried to get married before he had to leave so he could stay as my spouse.

Does this look sketchy? Is it ok that we tried to get married in a rush because we wanted to stay together? I want to stress that this is because we love each other and can't bear to be separated. We were planning to get married eventually - we just never set a date until it was kind of forced on us.

Problem 2 - The marriage paperwork didn't go through in time (thanks to the Swiss bureaucracy) and he had to go back to Israel on Dec 27, and he's currently there. Since he isn't allowed back into Europe for 3 months, we've decided to get married in Cyprus next week.

Again - the marriage will be rushed so that he can move back to France (and we can live together again) as soon as possible. I am so worried this looks bad, and that they'll delay his US visa and we'll be separated for even longer. We're getting married because we want to stay together. I actually asked him to marry me 2 months after we started dating, and he said to give it some time. I didn't bring it up again until we realized he had to leave. We have the intention - it just came to a head at a bad time.

Right when I get back I'm going to file the CR-1 as soon as I can because, again, bad timing - I'm returning to the US in October 2014, and from what I read he'll get his visa in Nov/Dec 2014 at the earliest, so I want to hurry so that we don't have to be apart for too long again.

The chronic worrier in my brain also wants to ask - we work at an international physics lab and his mother is from Iraq - will either of these impede our progress? Our physicist friends working with us here say the US authorities give trouble to people who know nuclear physics, but I don't know if they were joking or not.

Thanks for any advice.

No need to be worried. You will do perfectly fine. If anything immigration should be excited that such a talented and educated man will be willing to move to the US. Adds up to the much needed talent in the US.

The k1 visa requires people to marry in 90 days if arrival, I don't think they will bat an eye at your "rushed" ceremony... After all, the marriage is not rushed as you have known each other for a while and lived together, it is the ceremony that is rushed... You should be fine. Congratulations

The USCIS and DOS do not care how big or small the wedding is only that it is legitimate and genuine.

Read the guides on here when you get the chance. You'll be filing an I-130 petition which I do suggest you do as soon as you have the marriage certificate in hand.

It does not matter how quickly;ey you got married. You huys were together for a year, that is not a short time. I met my husband online and got married within 1 month of meeting him...go figure haha. Just provide evidence of a marriage, pictures, certificates and what not so that they do do think it is fake. It should be fine.

God Luck. :)
