Hello everyone,

This question may or may not have been answered many times before but I need this question answered anyways.

Can anyone tell me if it is better to get a lawer or not to do the K-1 process?

Thank you everyone

Christopher

Yes it has been answered or commented on many times. Most here probably have navigated quite successfully without an attorney. However, only you can decide if a lawyer is needed.

YMMV

Hello,

I would recommend that you read the K-1 guides here @ VJ and that could help you decide if you might need a lawyer or not. If you can obtain all the evidence needed for your petition and your case is pretty straight forward, you can do the application yourself. At least, that's what I did, follow the guides and did not get an RFE

Good luck on your journey!

There are a lot of posts here on that subject. Just search the forums for "lawyer" and you'll find a lot of opinions on that.

I guess it depends on if you are comfortable filling out the paperwork yourself. Or if you have a complicated case. I found this site after i had already hired my lawyer. But I have been very pleased with my lawyer and I had a speedy NOA2. So I have no regrets at all, well worth the money I paid for the peace of mind. We had a small problem of not receiving Packet 3 from the embassy the 1st time they mailed it, but that had nothing to do with the lawyer. Many people on this forum does it themselves, if you do, you will have plenty of help. Just ask you questions. Good Luck!

Christopher,

Depends on the specific details of your situation and how much work you are willing to put in to learn what you need to know.

Have a consultation with an immigration attorney to review your situation, ask questions, and get some tips. Then, based on the information that you have gotten, decide whether you want to go forward on your own or hire the attorney to work for you.

It is a very personal decision that each couple must take upon examintation of their situation...In my opinion if all is in order and you do not mind doing the paperwork then you will be fine going on your own...We did it and many others as well...Best of luck with your decision and your journey...
