I think there might be a small misconception here. I haven't been outside the US continuously for more than a year at any time. From all the inputs I have received it seems I should just wait it out and apply in 2018 for naturalisation.

You are married to a US citizen right? And if yes and you are still married to that USC then you will have to wait just 3 years and file on 2016. You need to give only last three years details if filing by marriage

You stated you left in August 2011, came back in July '12, stayed for a week, left again, came back in May '13, if I recall correctly, is that accurate?

If so, it's a technicality and an argument with USCIS which you would lose.

In absolute terms, you are correct that you were never out of the country for a continuous 365+ days. However, USCIS is like to ignore that one week you were in the country when evaluating the whole history.

Timeline:

2005-04-14: met online

2005-09-03: met in person

2007-02-26: filed for K-1

2007-03-19: K-1 approved

2007-06-11: K-1 in hand

2007-07-03: arrived in USA

2007-07-21: got married, yay!

2007-07-28: applied for green card

2008-02-19: conditional green card in hand

2010-01-05: applied for removal of conditions

2010-06-14: 10-year green card in hand

2013-11-19: applied for US citizenship

2014-02-10: became a US citizen

2014-02-22: applied for US passport

2014-03-14: received US passport

I must have misunderstood the dates as well... Can you clarify?

10/14/2000 - Met Aboard a Cruise ship

06/14/2003 - Married Savona Italy

I-130

03/21/2009 - I-130 Mailed to Chicago lockbox

11-30-09: GOT GREEN CARD in mail!!!!!!

Citizenship Process;

1/11/2013: Mailed N400 to Dallas Texas

3/11/2013: interview.. Approved

4/4/2013. : Oath! Now a U.S. citizen!

No he is not. He is now working on getting married in India and bringing spouse in on F2A visa. 2018 is when he should apply for naturalization.
