Help filling the DS 260

My fiancé was contacted by the embassy and was asked to fill out the DS 260 online form, but when I get in it its asking for NVC case number and the invoice number. We are at the embassy stage not NVC, so am confused. Can anyone please help me?

Are you sure they asking to fill out DS-260 online form? I've got mail from NVC stating that the applicant fill out the DS-160 online form instead. When I did it, the system did not ask the invoice number.

Yes, that what the DOS and the person from the embassy that contacted him said the DS 260.

i can understand your frustration. I was asked by the embassy to fill ds-160. And infact for k-1 visas they shud b asking for ds-160 only not ds-260 but there are people here who actually filled out ds-260 while being a k1 applicant so you might wana ask them on how they got around it. And most probably after submittin this he will be called for oath and bio metrics and then visa will be issued InshAllah

You'll need the numbers from the NVC, which they can provide you with. Everyone gets an NVC / DOS number. The IIN can be gotten from the DOS or NVC with your USCIS number.

The consualte should ask a K-1 applicant to fill out the DS-160, not the DS-260. DS-160 is for K-1, non-immigrant visa applicants. DS-260 is for immigrant visa applicants. They have changed to the DS-160 for ALL K-1 applicants across the globe since Oct. 7th. It happened rather suddenly, but it is not a bad thing to streamline the process and make the same form requirement for everyone no matter what country you interview in. Kerry sent a memo about the change, and the last part of his memo is quite clear about not using the DS-260 for a K-1 >

For fiance visa you dont need sd-260, fiance visa need sd-160 and 156k form, read well your consulate instructions

every consulate and embassy is different. Some require the DS-260, for instance Montreal asks for one.

Dunno why. I agree it should be the DS-160

The DS-260 is no longer used for a K-1. ALL K-1 applicants now use the DS-160, no matter which consulate they go through. Juarez asked for the DS-260 for 2 years before the change to the DS-160 happened in Oct. Thank-you all! The lady that called my fiance from the embassy confused us, she said he needed the ds260, but finally we filled out the ds 160.
