Congratulations. I would start calling NVC in a few days to see if they have received the approved petition and the case number.

That gives me time to prepare. We have no plans to travel until April or May.

Feb 2014 is the "Year of the Horse". That is my sign. Also in Mayanmar cutlture her best month to marry is April I think.

We will fly to San Francisco and get married. Her sister and brother-in-law will witness it.

I hope the embassy does not give us any touble over exloiting the visa type. Really the K1 was intended for us to marry, and the apply for a change in status. But we really only plan to go there, get married, and return to Singapore. We have no future plans to live in the USA. I exlained that in the "letters of intent to marry" that I submitted with the package. There is no spcific law probibiting us from getting married then leaving within 90 days.

We can apply for a K3 at some later date if we ever move to the USA. But at this point I have no such plan. I really think I will apply for a job in Germany at some later date and try to immgrate there. The USA is a great place for tourism, but not a great place to live.

Until recently I was seeking a K1 for my Burmese fiancé.

if you are not change your status within 90 days and out of Country, then you have to start over again..

You know what!!? Don't ever tell Consulate that "The USA is a great place for Tourism, but not a great place to live"

they would ask you why you apply ???

Good luck

PS. I don't mean to you and I don't really know what's I said it's the best answer or not..let's try to talk this situation with lawyer first until you would get denied from the Consulate

Most couples who do this do so because:

1. They want to marry in the US; and

2. The beneficiary is from a country where it is hard, if not almost impossible, to obtain a tourist visa.

K1 visas have a much higher approval rate than B2 visas. It's uncommon to use the K1 that way, but not against the law. :)

Phred: The IR1/CR1 is the visa you want if you ever want to move back to the US together - K3 is now mostly obsolete.

Flying to Seattle on 6 May 2014!
