The NVC sent application to wrong embassy maybe?

I'm pretty confused. When I filed my application for my Canadian fiancee I wrote in the box that I wanted it to be sent to the Calgary consulate (Since it's the closest one), however, the other day I got mail from the NVC saying they've forwarded our application to the Vancouver consulate. It also states that that is where his interview will take place.

This consulate is an 18 hour drive away from where he lives. :| Did they accidentally send it to the wrong one? Is the vancouver consulate the only one that processes these kinds of visas? I can't seem to find any information regarding this. Should we contact them about it and ask them to forward it to the Calgary consulate so that we may select that consulate for the DS-160 form?

Sorry if this is really dumb to ask about! :( In the end, I'm going to call them tomorrow if they're open, but I'd also like to hear from other people if that's possible!

There's only 2 embassy/consulates in all of Canada that do fiancee visas: Vancouver and Montreal. Since he lives closer to Vancouver, that's what they chose. Calgary doesn't process fiancee visas.

Oh! Thank you so much for your reply. We were really confused about it, but I was sure they did not make a mistake. I mean, why would they send it to Vancouver when I clearly marked Calgary? I figured there was a good reason. uwu

Thanks again! :)

The good part is he can do his medical in Surrey at Dr Cheema (no this cannot by done by his family doctor) which is very close to the Vancouver consulate. He'd have to stay overnight to get the results the next afternoon and then another overnight to have the interview next day. It's a way faster process than having to go to Montreal! :) I think the amount of money I saved by doing the CR1 was spent in travel costs. Of course we had other reasons to marry first.

I didn't know he couldn't get his family doctor to do the medical :o We planned on him having to stay over night anyways so I guess we will have to look into him staying a bit longer so that he could get his medical done there! Thanks a lot for the that tip :) Montreal is way out of our way anyways haha. So I'm glad there is something good to come out of having to do it in Vancouver!

You might benefit from searching around in the forums and on the Official immigration websites a bit more for other information as well.

If you didn't realize that the Interview and Medical were done outside of Calgary, I suspect you may not know about some other topics which might affect you too.

For example, do you know about Importing your vehicle into the US? Here is just one link regarding that topic:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/185250-canadaus-crossing-with-vehicle-letter/page-1

Or the thread on EI processes:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/8-the-canuck-ei-thread/page-1

As I am not pursuing the K-1, I'm not fully certain whether you also need to have your vaccination record prior to the medical, etc. Be sure to read through such threads as those found here on VJ: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/300-general-k1-guides-and-info/

Use the search box and see what other gems you might find here.

Hope this has helped in some way:)

Good luck!
