So I'll be leaving on January 10th to finally get my fiance. It's been one heck of a wait. But i know once she gets here, there's still work to be done.

And I been asking around and searching here, and I'm getting conflicting answers. And i know things change all the time.

I would really appreciate if someone could clear up some concerns I have. When I bring my girl back to the states, first thing I will do is file for an adjustment of status. And also go get married.

Now as far as biometrics, what do I need to do for that? make an appointment? or is that dependent on filing for adjustment of status?

thing is, I'm confused. I am not sure what all I have to do once I get back here. as far as her getting her social security card, and be allowed to work and all that?

If someone could please help or point me in the right direction. I'd like to have a plan in place for when I get back with her.

Again I apologize for starting a thread that has probably been talked about numerous time..but I really do appreciate all the help i've gotten on these boards!!

Thanks all!!

Pop the champagne!

You can get the SSN after about two weeks from entering on K1. Print the electronic I-94

Get married

File for EAD and AP along with AOS (cannot work without EAD)

You can change the name on the SSN after you get married IF there are at least two weeks left on I-94. Change it once you get EAD if there is not enough time. NOTE that there might be an issue with work until the names on all of the forms match. Here is our recent experience:

Lainie & Steve, you guys are great! thank you!!

I am booking my fare to go and get my girl, but the travel agent advised me that on my way back to the US from Afghanistan, my fiance wont be able to have a transit or layover in Europe. that makes no sense to me. its just a layover, we wouldn't be leaving the airport. he advised that we could only fly delta united and american.

this is the first time i have heard of such a thing, but he was adamant about it. And he's helped some other afghans with getting tickets to get their fiances, so i figured he knows what hes talking about. i haven't gotten the tix yet, as i wanted to make sure. i been googling and searching around here, and again my situation is a bit different than what i'm reading.

anybody have an idea whether this is right or not?

Do an advanced search (link atop every VJ page at far upper right) for "transit visa." I'd listen to the travel agent.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

He might be right. There are certain countries that need a visa to transit in European states, even if they don't get out of the plane or are just connecting another flight. I used to work for an European airline and we used to see those cases all the time. I'm not sure about your fiancée country, but it could be the case. I'll recommend you to check on that to avoid any trouble. Good luck
