Although we are legally married ... our second wedding (the duchle) is on July 7th, 2006. I don't know if it counts in this thread ... but I hope it would ! It's gonna be out big day !

Reunited and it feels so good ....

NOA #1 - March 23rd, 2004

Interview- May 18th, 2006 (Success !)

Arrived in the US - May 27, 2006 (our IR-1 visa journey was 2 years and 2 months long)

Wedding - June 17th, 2006

It's a Girl ! Baby Hana's expected due date - March 30th, 2007

It's when we get naughty :devil:

We got legally married and had a huge wedding in Lebanon. However, because we knew we were going to be apart for so long and we thought it would be better to wait until we had our second wedding (for my family and friends) in the US to consummate the marriage. It's very common in the Middle East to have a kitab iktab wedding (legal) and a duchle wedding (consummate). It's gonna be huge with 200 people there, dinner, dancing, huge white dress, etc.

You know Noura, you brought up an awful tradition. Abdel told me a few weeks ago about going to a wedding when he was a kid where they did that, and the sheet was not stained. The poor bride was beaten and her family fled in terror leaving her there with the groom's family. Her father was furious and went to fetch her from the groom. Apparently, at least in the ceremony Abdel went to, the father did not attend the event because their tradition said it would be difficult for the father to be present when his daughter lost her virginity.

Apparently there was a place in the mountain that they had to go through to get home where the groom's family could have pushed a rock down the mountainside and caused a landslide, and killed the entire entourage as they headed home, so Abdel remembers that trip quite well. He was with the bride's family so he was one of the ones having to get out fast.

Hearing him tell the story helped me understand why he is such an ardent feminist. He isn't a man who shows any hatred really, but when he does, it is at the ignorance of such traditions.

wow Liz, thanks for sharing that story, specially coming straight from Abel's mouth. Stories like this help us to better understand the different cultures our SO's come from. History holds some strange traditions and rituals when it comes to any place really. Just different from our own. Please share my thanks w/ Abdel. You're blessed to have such a wonderful man like Abdel as I am with Said. I'm sure we all feel this way abt our partners. I'm rambling.... can you tell I really miss Said :(

I PM'ed Elizabeth today. I was curious about how their AOS journey was going as her Hisham got here about two months before my Hicham. They are in AOS limbo. Their interview was cancelled and they have not heard anything since. :angry:

Let's keep them in our thoughts. Maybe a transfer to Cali is in order for them!
