I POE'd on Sept 18 and during the IR-1 application, I checked to apply for SSN automatically. By mid-Oct, still no SSN so I went in on Oct 17 and applied for one. 7 weeks later and apparently, Homeland Security is still verifying!!! It's ridiculous...anyone else experiencing this? I've checked the status about 10 times now with my local SSN office, but they can't do anything until Homeland Security verifies that my green card is legit.

Have you tried going to a POE and getting the CBP to look up your SAVE DB and doing any corrections?

My situation was a little different as I applied after a K1, but after not hearing from SSA 5 weeks after I applied for my card, I sent them an email through their website. A regional manager called me couple days later and the matter was resolved within a week. They apparently initially couldn't find my records of entry. I suspect they mistyped my name and my application sat on a desk for some time (some of my ID documents show my middle name, some don't, perhaps that was confusing). But who knows. I can't unfortunately say my local SSA office employees were the most knowledgeable people I've met.

Is it possible there is still a backlog from the shutdown? I know they were not processing any of the card during that time.

It's possible. I would go back into the office again at this point and ask for a supervisor to inquire what is going on. Also make sure they can look your name up on the SAVE db.
