New receipt number? You received your Form I-797c Receipt of 129F Petition (NOA1)? That is the only receipt number you will receive from USCIS at this phase of the process. Did you get a notice that you were assigned an Alien registration number (A#)? That is a different number, that notice is common and often confuses folks. It all sounds normal. You will be able to find your A# above the beneficiary's name on the (hopefully upcoming) I-797 Petition Approval Notice (NOA2).
