My Fiancee recently interviewed and was approved for her K1 to the US. My family and I are flying over in January to bring her (Hazel) home to the us. I've already booked our (Mom, Sister and I) airline tickets (round trip) on American and JAL. Now I am looking for a good way to get Hazel on the same flights with us for her one-way flight back to the US. I couldn't do it with AA when I booked our tickets. Apparently, her tickets can't be purchased by a third party... Not sure why.. Does anyone have any experience or advice on how I can get her on our existing flights without costing an arm and a leg? I'm afraid travel agencies will overcharge her.

Thanks

Mark

I was denied ticketing once the same way. I don't know why some airlines say or do that - I don't know what advise to give you because from then on I used Travelocity and it always was easy to change flights and move things when I needed to. I think you have to purchase a ticket back at the same time - that seems to be the rules in the Philippines.

Try to see if you can 'purchase' with frequent flier miles. AA let us purchase her one way ticket Bangkok-Hong Kong-San Francisco as there were seats available and the cost is reasonable. May be a way around the fraud controls they have set up for her country.

Okay, I just got off the phone with AA. I was able to reserve the tickets and was even able to reserve seating so we could sit together! Hazel has to go to the local AA ticket center in Malate and pay for and receive the tickets. I was able to get the tickets for $909... Seems high but I'm happy to have this over and done with.

Thank you all for your help and I hope this is helpful for others..

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

When I did this with my wife I could not book her one way ticket with my round trip ticket online, I called the airline and they handled it so that we were on the same flight back and sitting next to each other.

Should have read further you did just what I did and got it handled  ... slow draw Magraw.

Safe journeys
