Sorry for the long post. I read the requirements for an NBI for multiple names below and have a question.

g. OTHER COUNTRY POLICE CERTIFICATES. Applicants aged 16 years and older must also present police certificates from other countries where they have lived for six (6) months or more after reaching the age of 16. As with NBI clearances, foreign police certificates should be obtained in any maiden names, aliases or nicknames used while in the country in question, including different spellings you have used of those names. Country-specific information on how to secure police certificates is available on the State Department's web site at http://travel.state..../fees_3272.html.

Sorry about that. The rest of my question was cut off.

Background.. My SO lived in HK for over a year. She was there when I met her. She was married (separated)at the time. She moved back to Phils, got an annulment and a new passport in her maiden name. After that we spent time three weeks together in HK. She travelled on her new passport.

I know I need and NBI for her married name since that is what she used when she lived there. Does she need an NBI for her maiden name since she was in HK using that name?

NBI is for Philippines only, and that you will need in her name now and an AKA for her past married name.

As for HK your fiancee will need a police certificate:

Thanks Hank!

Just to confirm, she will need an AKA from HK for both names as well, even though she didn't use the second name when she lived there?

I was afraid of that..

I don't know (never done a police certificate), HK will only "know her" by the name she used there, which was her married name, right? This will all have to be done through the HK embassy in Manila, so they should be helpful I would think.

My wife's police clearance from MACAU was in her former married name only. We had no problems with it during the interview in Manila.

If she lived there during the time you said then she will need AKA from HK in her married name only since she was working there when married. As far as she visiting you on a tourist visa (I believe) under her maiden name no AKA is needed because she was in tourist status. Is that about right?

Be sure that she gets an NBI in all her names including married and maiden and any other names if they were used.

Doesn't matter if she is a tourist or working, if she was (continous) living there for 6 months or more she needs a police certificate.

Hi Greenbaum,

Thank you for your post. I like your answer.

To summarize; When she lived there continuously for more than 6 months, she only used her married name and will get a police certificate for that name. When she returned to HK several months later she used her maiden name and new passport but she was not there very long so she doesn't need need a police certificate for that name.

I hope I got that right.

I agree Hank. I was pointing out that she was visiting for only 3 weeks with her maiden name so no police record is needed. But, when she lived there with her married name, and the time period was greater than six months and continuous, then she needs an AKA for the married name only.

We are both saying the same thing. idea9dv.gif

Yes you have it right,

Heads up, the USEM is asking for expired or old passports if you lived in another country so be sure she brings her current passport and the "old" passport that she used for travel/living in HK to her interview.

Good luck on your journey.
