Interview Timing for IR/CR1s vs K1 visas

So I am not trying to complain, really I'm not, but I just have to say that it seems like K1 applicants are getting much earlier interview dates or are getting scheduled sooner that CR1s. Is that true? A lot of folks that are K1 that submitted paperwork a lot later than I did have earlier interviews than my husband. Just curious if embassies give priority to K1 visas or what goes on? We submitted our AOS and all paperwork to NVC on August 23rd, got a case complete on September 19th and on October 1 got an interview for November 26th. Some of my fellow K1 filers got much sooner interviews and didn't submit packets to NVC or the embassy till later.

Just curious again, if anyone knows why this is.

It has to do with the slots opened. K1's pick their own dates. If the date they want is available they can grab it.

Fair nope! But oh well. Some embassies require K1's to have certain paperwork in to embassy before allowed to login and schedule an interview. Some soon as they arrive at embassy and pay the fee at bank they can schedule.

Most embassies have very little space for IR1/CR1 (quess there aren't many married folk immigrating). So we have to wait for NVC to pencil us inprotest6wz.gif

That is not true, K-1's don't pick their interview date. They are assigned by the embassy, and we pay our fee at the interview.

Sorry yes for Jamaica the embassy. But for about every other embassy the couples get to pick from the calendar on embassy website.

I apologize to misled you. Thought it was a K1 in general kind of question. My bad.

No Problem at all Dwheels it was a general question. Just seemed odd to me that we got such a late interview date- over 2 months from case complete. Oh well, not a big deal. Only 4 weeks away now. And as someone already said, I probably just irked someone at NVC for over-calling lol.

Thanks Bishop I saw that. So it's pretty clear it's just a quicker process for K1s in terms of getting an interview scheduled. Like I said I know people who submitted their paperwork to the consulate last week and got an interview scheduled before mine.

I here you, Just my observation but it seems USCIS gets an influx of files in the early part of the year, and noticed that people who filed May, June and July paperwork seems to be moving at a better rate than earlier filers. K1 filers from May June July getting through quick. My girlfriend husband filing IR-1/CR-1 Visa get an interview from NVC three days after they (NVC) received the request and got his visa 5 days after the interview. So many variables,

I honestly didn't know that. What is the reason they don't let IR1/CR1s schedule their own interviews? Honestly, the more and more I read the more and more it seems like K-1s get all the perks: rapid approval at the USCIS stage, ability to pick their interview date etc. etc. :( Upsets me so much...

Don't forget cr1 has to send affidavit of support and get it accepted along with documents that k1 does not require, k1 literally only spends days at the NVC, cr1 weeks. And at most consulates the interview is scheduled by the NVC, not by the petitioner or beneficiary. Also the k1 has a lot to do after entering the US and much higher fees to pay. Your husband will have his green card and ability to work immediately. The cr1 may take a few weeks more in the beginning, but by far it is less stressful in the long run, not to mention less expensive.

K1 doesn't get all the perks. They cannot work of travel for a very long time after entering the US. cr1 has green card and ability to work immediately, and the fees are less. From filing the petition to interview was only 6 months for our cr1. And at the majority of consulates, the NVC does the scheduling of the interview, not the petitioner or beneficiary

Yes, they have a lot to do, but at least they can be together during the process. I'm already anticipating a 2 year wait from September for my wife to finally be here. It's just that backlogged right now.

Yes, I realize that. But the current wait for the USCIS portion of the CR1 is ungodly long, like 12-16 months it appears now. It's terrible. I'm wishing my wife and I had gone K-1 by now. At least we'd be together.
