Question about affidavit of support

Hi!

I'm new to the forum (and the site!) and my boyfriend and I aren't engaged yet, but plan on getting engaged and starting the visa process early next year.

As I'm a bit OCD about getting things in order, I've been trying to research what we will need to do and what information will be expected of us before we start this mammoth task!

Basically, my boyfriend has been working mainly freelance the last couple of years (apart from a few short contracts here and there) and so hasn't earned enough money to fulfill the criteria for sponsoring me on the K1 visa, but his Dad has happily agreed to do it. His Dad is retired but works part time, so he basically earns a part time wage and claims his social security and pension as well.

My question is - do his social security and pension count towards his total earnings in order to sponsor me? If they do, they he earns plenty enough, but if they would only accept his actual employment wages then he might fall short.

I'd love to find this out now as if he can't sponsor us we'd have to find someone else who'd be willing to do it before we start filing for anything.

Thanks for any help or advice - I've already found this site invaluable!

Income can include---

Salary from a job

Pension received

Social Security retirement

Self-employment

Child support

Trust fund payouts

Investment interest and dividends received

Lottery payouts

(that's all I can list off the top of my head)

Or assets can be used for the entire amount or to make up the shortfall in income. For London the fiance beneficiary can sponsor themselves with enough cash or assets. You won't need any sponsor or proof until interview day. It is not part of the petition, nor is It mailed to anybody. It goes with you to the interview.
