filling out I-864 form

Hello,

I am a US Citizen. I recently married and applied for my husband to come here using the I-130 form on October 7th. I received the NOA1 on October 10th. Now we are just getting for the next step. We want to find out what the next steps are and what we need to prepare for those steps. What kind of documents do we need?

I am a student and have a part time job. I do not make enough money to file my own taxes so I am dependent on my father which means I'm under his tax file. I started to fill out the I-864 form and came across a question. In Part 4: Information on Sponsor of the form, they ask for the name of the sponsor.

My question is that do I put my name in that option or my father's name since he is the main source of income in that tax file? Also, my father's income does not meet the poverty line, so we need to file another I-864 for a joint sponsor.

Please let us know the details.

Thank you so much for your help. We really appreciate it.

YOU will always be the primary sponsor, no matter how much you earn.

You will put your own name NOT your fathers. As you don't earn enough to file taxes on your own you will put 0 in the earnings box and write a letter stating that you don't pay taxes and under what exception you don't (ie not earning enough money to pay tax)

Your joint sponsor will then fill out their own I-864, even though they are the one earning the minimum amount, you are always the main sponsor.

Your next steps and what documents are needed are here:

Yes correct, thats what I did in my part I put my name as a primary sponsored even though I dont get that much earned 25k a year .petitioning three(3) people so m6 mother would be my joint sponsor signed up separate form I-864 even though she earn much 85k annually
