You should contact the French embassy in Washington D.C. about applying for a visa for your Russian wife. The green card allows her to return to America but it doesn't give her any benefits in other countries. She will have the same restrictions as any Russian citizen when it comes to visiting other countries. The only way around that is to become an American citizen. That takes at least three years.

It's the combination of residency and citizenship. For some locations, the US residence will make a difference.

Some, yes. Almost no place in Europe though. You need to apply for a Schengen visa. Nice part about this, it works in most countries in Europe. Fairly routine, you need proof of income, health insurance, and a few other things.

If you will be in another Schengen country, you can apply for their visa instead (if you are going to Greece or Germany, you could apply for their visa). It doesn't matter which country you arrive in. (You are supposed to have it either for the country of entry, or where you will spend the most time though).

Go to Switzerland. She doesn't need Swiss visa.
As long as we are giving out alternative suggestions, I'll add one too. Wait until she is a USC. 3 more years right? Then you can travel without a visa as well. :) That's what we are doing, since we can't afford to travel to Europe on our current salaries.

I agree - it really isn't a big deal. My wife got one from Russia before we were married.

Paris is possible.....

But there is so much here too. The U.S. has a lot of places to visit that you don't need a visa for. Now, I've never been to a city like Paris here in the U.S., but you can get to New Orleans and stay in the French Quarter. That's pretty close! And it's going to be a lot easier to go there than to Paris. (And probably a lot cheaper too!)
