Overseas Employment with DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY

My husband is currently here as a permanent resident. If he- or I- were employed on a military base for the US government, but in another country- would the time overseas count towards his continuous resident requirement for citizenship? Or would they not count the time that we are overseas, even though working for the military.

Any help would be nice. His father is ill, and he is trying to find a way for us to live closer to them, but not affect his citizenship process.

Actually, if he is sent overseas for the US Government, you would be eligible for instant Citizenship.. no waiting period required.

Not sure the US has Army bases in Morocco.

Not sure the US has Army bases in Morocco.

We were thinking Italy, since it is closer to Morocco, just an hour an a half plane ride, and he already knows the language. There are a few bases there.

Please let me know if you found anything out on the topic yet.

We are looking at a similar issue. I guess the major question is if the federal employer "deploys" you to the overseas station or not. Soldiers in the military get orders for that. However when you look at the federal job offers for civilians to work for the military, there is usually clearly stated that no relocation expenses are being paid, which could indicate that it is not equivalent to a military overseas deployment.

Anyway, just another pointer: mostly those jobs are for US citizens exclusively. So your husband wouldn't qualify for that.

Tweety, that is not correct. Some of them are and some of them are not. Not all are for U.S. citizens exclusively.
