Hi everyone. As many of you on here are wondering, as I, if all the US Consulates are still operating because of the economic crisis in the USA??

I apologise if this has already been answered but can't seem to find anything at the moment. This will help many people on here.

Thanks in advance.goofy.gif

Yes, this has not affected the consulates yet.

Key word here is "yet". The whole Department of State is still operating on money left from last year -- but there is no information on how long that will last. I suspect it won't be all that long, but that's a guess. Once that is gone, and they need to start furloughing people, it might affect consulate operations. Most/almost all of the consular activities are funded by the fees we pay -- but they still need support from other parts of the operation to keep running (like administration to keep the electricity bills paid, the computer technicians, the cleaning crews, etc.). If those shut down, so will the consular processing part. Hopefully, Congress and the President will do something before that happens!
