I-130 petition in "initial review" already

I've been reading from vj as often as possible since we filed our I-130 petition on August 12, 2013 and I don't remember ever seeing this question before.

On the USCIS website where you enter your receipt number to check status, after about three weeks it went from "accepted" to "initial review". Is this normal? The reason I ask is because my NOA1 came from the new office in Kansas and I have high hopes that the petition traffic will be moving faster than it has been. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

All initial review means is they have it and now its sitting somewhere. It does not mean anyone is reviewing it. Whether it got there one week ago or 1 year ago it all says initial review.

I pray also the new center is lightening fast like they had the other one open a year ago. But they do have a boatload of petitions before you since they have been holding petitions since April..

I'm a March filer and mine's in Initial Review as well. Don't think it means much till 'Decision' and 'Post Decision Activity'.

I'm the beneficiary.

Don't have a timeline? Don't know how to get started with it? Do it for the statistics sake: VJ video guide

Filing for a USC spouse visa (IR-1/CR-1) and not sure what comes next? Check out the VJ IR-1/CR-1 guide

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.
