She wasn't even born in the Philippines, doesn't look Filipino. What is up with that?

US-born Ms Young, 23, beat 126 other contestants and pledged to be "the best Miss World ever".

Nothing is wrong about that. Is it her fault just happened she was born in US? If she was the best in the competition then why not choose her? She moved to PI since age10 and I bet her mother is Filipina- tell me if I am wrong-. If someone questioning your child identity as whether being an American or a Filipino, what do you feeling?

It did happened in Indonesia when they chose Miss Indonesia for Miss Universe. Many people complained they chose German-Indonesian as the winner. But, why complained if she was the best in the competition. I am not into beauty peagant, but glad this competition promoting cultures of many different countries to around the world.

She met the citizenship requirements for her country, and was allowed to compete. That's it, that's all, really.

My wife said, "I know her from the Philippines she was younger. She won because she looks so white and speaks English. She sings and dances."

You mean she is like the Filipino Justin Bieber?

"No, she's not that popular, more like Hanna Montana. It gives the Filipinos a reason to be proud."

I am not a Filipino but I really proud an Asian won this competition. I never met her in person, but her skin looks brown though - I googled many times to be sure-. Miss Indonesia more white than her in my opinion. Most of the time, Europeans or Americans won the event so this is a great achievement to show how rich the cultures in Asian countries.

Questioning her eligibility to enter this competition reminded me when Indian girl won Miss America a while ago. People said," oh she's not like Americans in general because she's not white" and backlash turned into racist debating which was unnecessary. I find this really is unfair whoever has a dream in US. All Asian people should be proud of her winning. I am glad your wife proud of her as well.

Oh well miss USA is Indian, and the runner up is Chinese. So it does not matter to me, and I think Hapa people are cute, but I am biased. Miss Young is a Filipino citizen so walang problema. I do miss watching her on TFC, though.
