Hi there,

I'm a Ir/CR-1 visa petitioner, United States citizen petitioning for my husband, Indian citizen. I'm trying to get an understanding of everything that goes on in the NVC step of the process, since hopefully we will be there soon!

I filed the paperwork for the visa from my home in the US (living with parents), but then went to India to be with my husband during the long waiting period. All the documents and communication will be going to my home in the states as that is still my legal residence. Parents will be scanning and faxing information as it arrives.

I recently read on the ***removed*** website that the AOS fee does not need to be paid if submitted to the US embassy or consulate abroad. But then the Dept. of State website says payments cannot be made to embassies. I'm confused. If I'm in Mumbai, will I still have to pay the fees online or can I take the form and submit it to the local embassy?

Any clarity in this mater would be greatly appreciated. I want to be as prepared as possible for the next step...we've been waiting long enough as it is!

Thanks

Filing at the embassy doesn't apply to you because you do not qualify for DCF. That would have been done upfront and you would have had to meet the requirement of India to be a resident. So forget that. You will be going through NVC.

Go to the NVC filers thread and read the first post. There's much you will need to do if you haven't already.

ya, that fee is waived if you were a DCF casefiler. I assume, for the moment, that you weren't.

Just pay the fees online with the NVC payment portal, entering yer USA bank info (ABA routing #, account number) whilst yer in India. Easy Peasie, Lemon Squeezies. ;)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
