if you have a world market in the area ( a few of them in Chicago) you can get Canadian stuff there too, 2$ a chocolate bar.

My region's way too small and dying out for that, but the local stores (if they're big enough) sometimes carry items that are "made in Canada"...it's a nice treat!

Has anyone else noticed that "ranch" dressing tastes different in the states? Its like ... sweeter? Maybe its just me ...

EVerything seems sweeter in the U.S. they add hfcs to every freaking item, bread is disgustingly sweet, i stopped buying it. also salt..what is up with salt? and why oh WHY can i not find ANYTHING that is salt free? like my montreal steak spice, up north i can find salt free versions, here i'm lucky if i go to the spanish / polish isles and fine 25 % less salt versions...its really disheartening to see so much salt on everything as well.

"Canadian" chocolate is for the most part just British chocolate, you can find them around here though at a place like publix or world market. They are about 50% more than Canada. I've actually found Dare cookies, maple creme, chocolate, viva puffs, etc..

There's lots around if you look. I still don't notice any taste differences in anything people are complaining about here - ketchup, KD, bread, etc..

Oh forgot to mention, if you are tempted into buying Girl Scout cookies don't. They're expensive and awful. I was really disappointed after all the years of hype hearing how great they were. The somoa's were not as good as standard coconut macaroon's I used to get in the grocery store back home and the thin mints taste like chocolate covered dirt.

My husband bought me all the kinds of girl scout cookies last year and they were all "just ok" . I did like the samoas but ...ya way too expensive and I would just rather get my cookie calories from homemade chocolate chip cookies.

I have already started my list of things I want from Canada (my girl friends are coming to visit) #1 on the list is maple honey. OMG so delicious. I have not seen it in Kentucky anywhere.

Have you never had Girl Scout cookies in Canada? They taste pretty much the same to me, other then a few new ones I've had them in Canada.

Honestly, reading this thread has made me really excited to go back home to the states.

I think I will miss all dressed chips, but I find they taste similar to barbeque ones. I can't wait for poutine to catch on to more places in the US, it's good. Luckily there already are some places in Charlotte that serve it.

I can't recall if this was mentioned before, but is anyone else a fan of Roger's Golden Syrup? It's made of cane syrup and I haven't found anything similar here - everything in the grocery stores is either corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup or sometimes actual maple syrup. I even looked on Amazon and found 'treacle' which is supposedly similar. For now it's my go to buy item when visiting.

I had read somewhere that Becel margarine is not avalable in the USA, but now it is but under the name "Promise". The pkg looks the same just a different name
