Does the Embassy Normally Call Beneficiary?

I read here where on quite a few occasions the beneficiary receives a phone call from the Embassy for instances like scheduling an interview date or to drop off their passport post-interview, etc.

Are these calls from the embassy normal? Or does a request need to be put in?

What happens if nobody is able to answer their phone call?

I am hoping it does not delay or hurt the file if call is missed.

I ask because the beneficiary shares her cell phone with her mother (mom on the phone 24/7) and she attends school 6 hours daily.

Yes, there are instances when the embassy calls the applicants.

My husband experienced receiving a call from the US Embassy Manila when they had to re-schedule his interview date because of bad weather.

USEL called my then Fiancee in Nigeria to reschedule her appointment due to a Nigerian holiday. When they couldn't reach her they sent me an email. They were good.

For this critical process I found it prudent to make available all addresses, physical, email and phone numbers that we provided on the forms.

Yes, The embassy called my fiance once they were ready to schedule the interview to confirm his e-mail address to e-mail his interview letter and the forms. Then they also called him after then interview to go over his school and work history. They will try to call more then once, because the second time that they called my fiance had a couple of missed calls from them and then they called the 3rd time. But it would be best to take their calls if possible.
