I94 and Customs Declaration

Hi all,

Just a quick one...or two!

I understand that the I94 is now done automatically, that there is no "paper arrival form" and that I must apply online to retrieve it after I arrive. My question is, to those that have already travelled on their K1 Visa, I assume that you itemise each and every item that you're carrying on the flight on the rear of the form as all items will remain in the US?

Also, just to confirm, a one-way ticket to the US is fine?

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Not sure about the Customs side of it, but I'd believe you have to. A lot of stuff where it's been used or worn so much might not have much value, of course.

As for the flight? Sure, a one-way is fine but it's not going to be as cheap as a return. In the travel industry, one-way tickets are almost always the fully flexible and refundable kind, whereas your return doesn't have that (and is therefore cheaper).

"What's yours is mine!"

I-94 is an immigration document.

A customs form is for customs.

Different things, two forms.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Customs declaration is a seperate form.

You just got to answer the questions, there is no need to have an list of all the items you are carrying.

You would need to declare on there is you are carrying good or money worth more than $10k.

You can have one-way ticket they know you are comming with intentions to live in US. For K1 and CR1 folks immigration would never ask to see their return tickets.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate that they are separate forms. I just wanted to clarify that people who had travelled using their K1 Visa had declared all items that they carried with them on the flight as all of the items will remain in the US, as asked on the Customs Declaration.

One way or a return? Pick the cheapest. Cancel the return after arrival. Try different returns and you may find a cheaper fare if you pick odd days or non-prime time travel dates.

Customs. I asked this question of the CBP supervisor for IAH (Houston). He said--

Do not itemize, list, or value your household items (personal items). You may write "household goods" on the customs forms with no value. That's what we did covering six pieces of luggage between us. If you bring new items for gifts or sunglasses you purchased in duty-free at the airport, then those are listed and valued. We listed English cheddar and teabags. Those items all shiny new with tags do not qualify for the unlimited free entry of an immigrant's stuff that is supposed to be owned by you for one year. Don't get too hung up on if your shoes are 9 months old or 12 months old. They aren't that fussy, even if you get picked for a random bag check as long as they look like your clothing and not something you are doing to sell.

That's great, thank you so much for replying. As usual, you're all, particularly Nich-Nick, a fountain of knowledge.

"English cheddar and teabags", nice! I've found the British stuff in the "ethnic" aisle as they call it, of Publix, a home-away-from-home!

The cheese and Sainsbury's tea were just to have a starter for the big move. We find all that kind of stuff easily now that we moved to the big city...actually some cheap alternatives so don't have to pay the imported prices of English cheese....HEB Artisan Cheddar has proved to be satisfactory. Second fav is Boar's Head Black Wax Cheddar. We even have a British market close by for everything British, even bacon, bangers, etc. Hubby prefers BBQ and Mexican food after five years here.
