I am of course looking at this through rose colored glasses, but I think Jin has worked really hard at adjusting to life here, I've been really proud of her. She has mentioned several times, now she has two families. One here and one in Thailand. She has also said my Mom is her mom her in America.

All this makes it very difficult for her (and me) when my mother has been so opening against the marriage. For a while Jin blamed herself asking what she did wrong. She even suggested canceling the wedding until Mom has a chance to adjust. But I told her with the 90 day deadline coming fast. A delay is really not an option.

So, we press forward and hope for the best for everybody.

I am also sure you must know in Thailand many people feel as his family does about our people marrying farangs. It didn't happen in my family but there were or are Thais that believed my husband would sell me or our daughter for example. Its all based in ignorance of course.

Alot of people in Thailand were trying to convince my wife I was gonna sell her when she got here. Still waiting for a decent offer. devil.gif

slowlyman - do you still live with your parents? yes? no ?

if yes - invite about 20 thai women over for a cooking weekend/bacchanalia ...

He lives in northern Wisconsin. There's probably not 20 Thai people in a 200 hundred mile radius.

I am at the age where I don't really care. ;)

Besides, it's hard enough to make a relationship work without taking others opinions into account.

I think in time they'll come around.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Ah. Ok. Best to bus them in, from over the Canada Border, for a longish cooking bacchanalia,

if,

in fact,

he still lives with his Mom.

If Mom doesn't live in his house - then most of this stuff can be mitigated.

That's my attitude as well. Life's too short to worry about other people's issues. If they come around fine. If they don't, oh well.

555! Been out of the house for well over 30 years now. So why do I care? We are a close family. Monthly cookouts, holidays etc. It is just creating tension, and making Jin feel bad.

I don't care what people think, I don;t need anybodies approval. but I do care when that thinking effects me and the people I care about. (if that makes sense)

OK. if'n rlogan was still active this season,

most likely he'd start off with telling you that

you need to sit down with your Parents and have a long talk,

without your lass.

He'd give you all sorts of pointed advice about how to manage the conversation, as well.

IMO, at the moment, you're being reactionary to 'the situation' instead of 'controlling' the situation, but

almost anything can be

negotiated and mitigated via a conversation with your parents.

I agree. You might want to make clear then tension that the situation is causing and how much you love your wife and that you would hope your family would not make you "pick" one over the other.

Clearly you haven't met my parents 555.

Rational conversations have never been their strong suit.

Then would you consider professional therapists for 3 sessions, with you and your parents, prior to getting married, nowish? IMO, you need a disinterested 3rd party to act as a moderator, for the sh|t storm yer about to walk into.
