No, the most important is current income (for which you will not have a tax return yet). What is your current annualised income like?

They look at your current income, reflected on the pay stubs. That's why you're advised to send in your last six pay stubs plus the last three years of your tax return transcripts.

They will look at your latest Tax Return transcript which should be for the year 2012. In fact, at the interview, they will want a copy of it.

If it's borderline, having your 2011, 2010 tax return transcripts (go to irs.gov to request free transcripts) will help the CO make a decision based on financial evidence.

As noted before, you'll also need 6 months of payslips showing income. If it's below poverty, you can use assets (house, bank account, stocks/bonds) that total more than 3x (for spousal visa) the poverty level.

Keep in mind the tax transcripts will also show bonafide evidence (since both your names are on a joint tax return), it will show domicile evidence (as the address should be a U.S. address for your latest return), and financial evidence as it shows how much you made.

This is why the tax return transcripts are so important at the interview.

x3 if you use your own assets; x5 if you use a co-sponsor.
